For it had turned out to be Maya after all---
"You'd better have a damn good reason for dragging me out of the first sleep-period I managed to properly take in 3 whole weeks, or may the universe help you because nothing else is going to I assure you!"
"Sorry sorry sorry Misato-san, but it really is important. You know a Senator Luther, don't you?"
"---Didn't know there was more then one. Yeah, I know Lex Luther, half the people in the department must have met him face to face at least once, it's not like he's not one of the most famous ---or infamous--- people on Earth and the Solar System, you know. What about him?"
Aaaak. Her headache was killing her. The one time she managed to get relaxed properly with Pen-pen, the telly and a sixpack...
"Wait a bloody minute, will ya?"
Green pills, green pills, where were the bloody green pills? Oh yes, right in the drawer.
Though she had no idea how they had ended up under her hairpin collection...
Thank goodness those things worked so quickly. Viva Crystal City medicine!
"---OK. Now that I'm sorta feeling like a human being again... Tell me what happened."
What had happened was, quite simply, Bad.
"...Let me get this straight. ...One of the most famous Senators of the Neo Silver Millenium Solor System Senate just ...drops of the rader..."
Not that she was quite sure what a rader actually was...
"And nobody noticed till the intrepid muckracking duo Lane-and-Kent ran a expose in the Daily Planet newsfeed?"
Actually, it had been "Kent and Kent" for quite a while now, since the former Lois Lane had opted to go the old-fashioned route and legally changed her name when she contracted with Clark Kent, but that was besides the point at this moment.
"We thought the Senator's Security was taking care of things,the Senator's Security thought we were taking care of things...And, well, it's Senator Luther, Misato-san. It's not the first time he's just---dropped out of sight!"
And on Quite Important Business too, as it had turned out quite freaquently in the past.
"That kind of thing is not supposed to happen, damnit..."
Misato blinked.
"The Palace knows of this already, right?"
It was Maya's turn to blink. Though this was supposed to be a reasonably secure link...
"I think so, Misato-san. The Boss has been in the Palace for...Mmmm...Over a hour now. I think."
"OK then."
Misato felt rather guilty for not being able to stop hoping that it did turn out to be something to do with the Palace directly, like a super-secret something gone wrong.
It wouldn't be their fault at least, in that case...
"Alright, I get it, Maya. ---Everybody's being called back, right?"
"I'm afraid so..."
Vacation cancelled. In less then 12 hours, to boot.
Ahh, well.
---To Protect and to Serve, yadda yadda yadda.
Misato thought of a all-too-earnest 17 year old, and almost crawled back into bed on auto.
---She must have been nuts.
And she must be crazy still...
Lex Luther. Check.
"Get outta the way, Pen-pen...It's a emergency. No, I'm not making this up. ---You can feed yourself you silly bird, don't pretend to be stupider then you are."
Got to get dressed. Working clothes. Uniform.
"No. I am not telling the auto-cooker to feed you snacks on demand. That's final."
