So too was Experimental Model Warforged 6-2-3-Aleph, who had taken the name Tao and followed a path that diverged from many of the others of his series. A weapon of the Last War, who had fought the undead legions of other nations, who sought purpose now in this Art of combat and enlightenment.
His glowing green eyes took in the sight of the minotaurs fighting a victim who refused to be a victim and realized that here was someone to learn from.
The best way to introduce oneself was in battle against a common enemy, or so thought Tao. He, or so he thought of himself as he didn't actually have a gender, had just the letter of introduction in mind.
The staff swung elaborately and smashed with precision at the vertabrae at the back of a horned head. It made a satisfying crunch, and then it was time to duck and block as its fellows noted the arrival of reinforcements.
The human stood as the battle wound down, mainly because the last two minotaurs bolted after seeing their numeric advantage dwindle rapidly under the onslaught.
"I didn't need your help," said the human.
Tao didn't have an extensive knowledge of human society or life, but did have knowledge of the military and something of the role of those of his new 'profession.' "Of course not, sir. It was entirely for my own education."
The human seemed to consider this and the salute. "Ya saying I'm a 'sir'?"
THAT comment clicked. "Of course not, you obviously work for a living. I am Tao, student of martial arts. You are clearly superior in those abilities, therefore I seek to learn from you. Not incidently beat on a few of these ruffians."
"Ah," said the human, considering.
Ranma thought this was some kinda fantasy world, therefore the robot martial artist was a bit of a surprise. Or maybe not quite a robot as this one seemed to have wooden parts. The guy (or whatever) was clearly not up to his own level and wanted to learn - or so it said. Naturally it wanted to learn from the best. Might have looked like some weird robot, but it had good taste obviously.
There was also the possibility that Robby here, or no, it said its name was 'Tao' - knew the area a bit better than Ranma (which was not at all). So, martial arts lessons for acting the guide. Worse deals he could make, he supposed.
"Okay, teishi, if you're my student in the martial arts, you need to address me as 'sensei' - it means teacher. Second, grab what loot ya think'll get a good price and show me where to sell it. Need some local coin and all."
The student began looking over the pile of left-behinds, and Ranma considered. He was stuck here in this world for awhile at least. Best to get some use out of it. To that extent, this being a robot, it meant he didn't get saddled with a new fiancee or something at least.
"First thing'll be strength and endurance training," decided Ranma as he watched his student. "Work on that staff later."
