Ranma spent some time listening to his student and observed the "robot" as he did. Being Japanese and occasionally able to read manga, he was quite familiar with the concept of a self-aware robot and didn't have any real problem associating with one. It was a little odd that this one didn't have a gender, but that wasn't too much of a reach for him. At least this new student wouldn't be a fiancee or hitting on him in other than a martial sense during sparring. Ranma decided after a time to regard Tao as a 'he' for practical purposes.
Tao apparently was built to be a soldier, only the war he was to fight in was over by the time he was deployed. Trying to find a new meaning for his existence, he'd turned to the martial arts and sought enlightenment.
This made perfect sense to Ranma.
As for Tao's abilities - rank beginner. Akane could have wiped the floor with him. Kodachi could have taken him apart. Heck, Kuno could probably have beaten the guy.
As a sensei, Ranma felt he had his work cut out for him.
As a guide, Tao didn't know the whole city that well but he knew it better than Ranma and he knew some sections exceedingly well.
Ranma quickly found the mountain of items going to a pawnshop, and it was the badger statue that sold the quickest after Tao had indicated his belief that it was a fetish dealing with male sexual prowess.
The leather pouch with local money was lightened after picking up some local clothing and supplies, with a membership at one of the local "adventurer's guilds" (Clifftop) taking a good sized bite out of that funding.
Ranma took his duties as sensei seriously. He'd modify some of his father's training, leaving out things like pits of starving animals, and adapt it to his new student's abilities.
