Eve smiled brightly, gazing at the recently unburied entrance to what she assumed was an ancient temple. It had taken weeks to get permission from the authorities, who were still investigating the abandoned building which exploded mysteriously in the Viridian Forest just a few months earlier.
But it was worth it, she though, feeling as giddy as she did at her first dig; under her colleague and former mentor, Professor Reinn. Thankfully, she maintained her professional image, forcing the urge to jump up-and-down like a child in a candystore. Turning around, she clapped her hands, catching the attention of her fellow archeologists as they climbed out of there cars.
"All right, everyone! The sooner we unpack, the sooner we get to check this place out!"
A rousing cheer followed her proclamation as the others began setting up their equipment. The resulting symphony of machinery, tents, and footsteps soon drowned out all other sounds.
Including an ominous whoosh as a giant ring; decorated with thirty-nine unique pictographs, suddenly activated after 5,000 years of dormancy...
