"Aw shaddap ya old ghoul," complained Ranma. "So what's the story about this?"
"Draw the curtains, lock the doors," said Cologne with a tired sounding sigh. "It's not just your life, Ranma, don't be wasteful."
"HEY!" said Akane, having moved to a table covered with books. "This is it!"
"You've been SHOWING people the Key?" asked Cologne, her voice practically a growl and a battleaura flickering into place around her.
"Aw shaddup ya Old -" began Ranma.
Cologne began smacking Ranma around, not playfully. Her first staff strike put him through a wall, and before he could hit the floor on the other side she'd hit him three more times. "STUPID. STUPID. STUPID. STUPID!"
Nabiki began to wonder if making those phone calls had been a mistake.
"Ranma! Stop playing around!" complained Akane as Ranma was driven into the floor like a tent peg.
"i seem to be getting a headache," said Ranma as soon as the beatdown had finished.
"Idiot," complained Cologne, taking the box from where Ranma had dropped it to compare it to the one in the illustration. Then opening the box. "WHERE. IS. THE. KEY?"
"Is this key really valuable?" asked Nabiki.
"If it is THAT Key," said Cologne, indicating the ancient book. "It depends on your definitions of such."
Nabiki looked at that book, comparing the key in the illustration to the one Ranma had brought around. "So are we talking about hundreds of yen? Thousands?"
"What monetary value do you place on a human life?" asked Cologne.
"Millions of yen?" guessed Nabiki.
"Millions of lives," stated Cologne, sounding quite disgusted. "Most likely including your own."
"Priceless," concluded Nabiki, removing the key from inside her sweater.
Cologne took the Key and compared it to the picture.
"What's the language anyway?" asked Nabiki. It wasn't Chinese.
"Sanskrit," said Cologne. When she was done comparing, she slumped.
"It's not the right key?" asked Akane.
"Worse," said Cologne. "It IS."
"Would someone get me outta the damn floor?" asked Ranma.
"So, exactly what IS that key?" asked Nabiki.
"Something that death and destruction have followed whenever it has turned up," said Cologne. "It is the Key-"
