Potter's Kunoichi: Prelude to an Explanation [Episode 130596]

by Prince Charon

Harry blinked and shook his head.

Nope, still there.

"Um, hello?" he said, hesitantly. "I don't speak, er, Japanese if that's even what you're speaking. Do you speak any English?"

"Ah," said a voice from around the corner, "I see she has preceded us."

Harry looked up as Professor Dumbledore entered his line of sight. The Headmaster had made a clear attempt to look like a Muggle, having cut or used shortening charms on his hair and beard, and wearing a shirt, tie, waistcoat, pants, shoes, spats, and a long coat.

Now if only he'd chosen colours that made him look less like a geriatric Colin Baker fan.

"Erm, Professor," started Harry, only to be interrupted by the crash of a woman tripping over a hose.

"Oof! Ow," said the pink haired young woman, "Wotcher, Harry, I'm Tonks."

"Um, hello," said Harry. The young woman he helped up off the ground fit in rather better than the Headmaster or the blue haired girl, being dressed in a t-shirt (advertising the Weird Sisters), pair of jeans, socks, and trainers.

"What's going on, Professor, and who is this girl?" asked Harry, waving his hand at the odd, blue-haired lass.

"That, Harry, is a rather long story, which can best be explained indoors," said the Headmaster. "Are you finished out here?"

"Nearly done," said the young man, "just need to bag up these weeds."

"Like this?" asked Dumbledore, waving his wand at the piles of weeds, which promptly threw themselves into the waiting garbage bag, sitting by the wall. The bag then tied a knot in itself, and returned to its usual, immobile state.

"Yes, exactly," said Harry. "the Dursleys won't be back 'til tomorrow, so we can talk in my room,"

"Rei-san desune. Kao o oagenasai," said Dumbledore, smiling at the odd girl on the ground. "Dewa, kochirani."

Hearing this, Rei looked up, nodded, picked up her mirror, and stood. Stepping into her geta, she followed them in.

As they entered the house, Rei removed her geta again, then looked around in puzzlement for a bit, before turning her questioning look to the Headmaster.

"Sumimasen, geta-bako wa doko nanodeshou?" asked Rei.

"Igirisu no ie dewa, ie no naka demo kutsu o haku koto ga ooinodesuyo. Geta wa heya ni shimatte okinasai," explained Dumbledore. At least, Harry got the impression that the girl was asking a question, and the Headmaster was answering her. It seemed to leave her even more confused, though it was difficult to tell, due to her blank expression.

Rei waved her mirror at her geta, whispered something Harry didn't catch, and her geta shrank, allowing her to tuck them into her obi.

Harry looked at her, surprised. "Professor, did she just..."

"Use her mirror as a wand? Oh, yes, Harry," said Dumbledore, as they walked through the Dursleys' living room, "wands are not the only means of focusing magic, they are merely the one that the Ministry approves of, due to the ease of identifying them."

"Oh," said Harry as they climbed the stairs. "Wait, when Dobby did magic here, I got a letter from Hopkirk."

"You needn't worry, Harry," said Dumbledore, "I've already informed her that I would be visiting you today. As long as an authorised instructor is present, you are technically 'in school', and thus can perform magic."

"Oh," said Harry, as they entered his room. It was rather cramped for four people, but only briefly, as Dumbledore cast an Expanding Charm on it.

"Now," said the Headmaster, "as soon as the ladies have finished their privacy charms, I can explain Miss Ayanami's presence."

That didn't take long, so Dumbledore conjured some extra chairs, and they all sat, as the Headmaster began his explanation.

"You see, Harry..."
