Of the four only one was distinguishably as a individual via his neatly pressed military uniform, numerous medals gleaming over his chest as his face turned into a scowl directed at the three others, each identically dressed in a black suit and tie.
“I don’t like it.” He growled. “The man's a complete slob and untrustworthy. Why the hell do you want to use him?”
One of the figures leaned forward and pressed his hands together. “It is exactly his untrustworthiness that makes him perfect for this mission general. As you know it would present....political difficulties should our target become aware of our attempts to ‘acquire’ the prototype. Whatever you may think of the man himself, it is undeniable that he is an excellent thief able to get into place not even our top agents are capable of undetected. The only reason he isn’t on the international most wanted list is his inability to rise above petty targets...”
The General snorted. “It’s that pettiness I’m worried about! That fool has never gone after something as well guarded as the prototype! He’ll probably be captured ten minutes into the mission”
“IF he is, than it is of no matter to us. At the very least he will expose some of the defenses in use on the prototype and make the Russians over confident, and if by some miracle he does succeed than all the better for us as we won’t have to waste any valuable resources in acquiring the prototype. “One of the figures shrugged, none of the four giving so much as a blink as they considered sending a man to his almost certain death, the general however got more angry at another point.
“No matter? NO MATTER? If he gets caught he could expose us all, not to mention the political repercussions!”
“Expose us? Who would believe him? Who in their right mind would believe a man is hired for high-level theft and espionage for as little as $5,000 dollars, all he can eat prior to the mission, and a few forgiven misdemeanors on his criminal record? Any such accusations would make the accuser the laughingstock of the UN. That’s what makes him perfect, no one would believe he was hired for so little for such a task. Thus no one will believe him should he be foolish enough to name us as his employers.” One of the dark suits chuckled.
“Oh and what about his.... companion.” The General sneered.
“AH, now that was the tricky part of the negotiation.” The Third suited individual remarked in a scoffing tone. “We had to agree to let the boy be trained in Special Ops Martial arts... and provide room and board.”
The General’s eyes widened. “You don’t mean to put a brat on MY facility!!”
“Come now General... don’t think of him as a brat... think of him as.... insurance that our patsy will bring back the target should he succeed.” The first black suit spoke. “Besides at best you’ll just have the boy sit in on some training exercises. What are the chances he would be any good at advanced fighting?”
The General grunted. “I suppose so, after all how much trouble could one brat be? I still think you should lock him in a cell though.”
“Duly noted and ignored, we have to at least give the pretense we’re following through on the deal. Really general it won’t be that bad.”
And as the four discussed things about changing the world, in the booth the two targets of the recent discussion sat and ate voraciously. One was a tall portly man in a ratty white gi, his head covered in a bandanna. The other a little chibi boy in a red Chinese suit, a small pigtail sticking out the back of his head as he fight his father for a share of the meal.
Indeed how much trouble COULD these two be?
