General Hawk returned the salute of the secretary who had rose from his desk. "At ease, I'm here at General Krook's request?" He glanced back toward the young boy he had spotted on entering the room. The boy smiled and waved to him.
"General Hawk is here sir?" the adjunct stated to his intercom.
"Send him right in." General Krook responded through the intercom.
The adjunct started around the desk, but General Hawk had already stepped forward and opened the Generals door and walked through.
"General Hawk reporting." Hawk said with a salute after shutting the door behind him.
Krook remained seated as he returned Hawk's salute. "At ease General, I trust your little asylum's still running fine?"
Hawk scowled, then forced his face to neutrality. "My command are in excellent shape, still the best in the service."
"Good! Glad to hear it General!" General Krook responded with a grin as he stood. "The best in the service is what we need."
Hawk forced himself not to look suspicious. "With due respect, what is this assignment?"
"Did you see the kid in the outer office?"
Feeling a sense of foreboding Hawk replied, "Yes. . ."
"That's your assignment. Keep an eye on the kid, and see to it he gets some training." Krook responded with a grin.
"WHAT?! GI Joe is a Military unit, not a babysitting unit!"
"General Hawk." General Krook rose to his feet and looked his subordinate in the eye. "The boys father has agreed to assist us in an important capacity, and has requested that we see to it his son is properly treated and taught Special Ops fighting techniques while he's away. And as the best in the service, what better unit to train him than your Joe's?"
General Hawk returned General Hawk's gaze. "What sort of mission his father on?"
"Need to know only." Krook responded with a dismissive gesture. He picked up an envelope. "Ok, here's your official orders to take care of the kid." He extended the envelope.
Hawk reached out, took the envelope, opened it, and quickly skimmed the contents, then put them back in the envelope. "Understood General."
"Then you're dismissed." General Krook snapped a salute, which General Hawk saluted back too. As Hawk turned and opened the door, Krook added, "Good luck with your mission."
