Removing the Angel DNA from the plans proved impossible. All that could be done was just trying to add something that would allow for control by a select group of children. I only hope they have the wisdom to know how desperately they must fight against any possible 3rd impact.
The young boy stood at the train station, waiting for the person from NERV to come and pick him up. He checked the picture that came with it, shaking his head in amazement. It seemed very unprofessional for the woman to direct him to look at her breasts.
Air raid sirens continued to wail, when suddenly a car swerved around the curve in the road and came into view. The door kicked open right in front of him, revealing the same person from the photo. "Come on! Get in, Shinji! The Angel is almost here!"
Shinji didn't argue. As soon as he was half in, the car took off like the very demons of hell were behind it. Which, as he looked back, seemed quite apt. The huge monster was fighting its way into the city.
"Misato?" the boy asked.
"What?" the officer snapped as she listened to her radio ear-bug. "No way! They wouldn't?" She suddenly skidded the car off the side of the road. "Get down! They are using a N2 mine!"
Reflexively, they both hunched down just as a bright light flashed. The ground shook and the sky rumbled like the wrath of god.
A minute later, they both looked up. A white feather seemed to drift by the window. "I guess we lived," the woman said. "By the way, my name is Misato Katsuragi. Pleased to meet you." She looked down at the dashboard of her card. "Hey! My car is still running. I've still got thirty-two payments, you know."
"Shinji Ikari! Pleased to meet you."
"Well, it's off to NERV we go. Did you read the letter there?" Misato started to drive through the city again.

Shinji stared at the awesomely ugly giant robot head in front of him. "You want me to pilot this?"
"Yes! Neon Evangelion Unit 1! The ultimate fighting machine built by NERV." Misato looked quite proud.
"But I don't know how to pilot it!" the boy exclaimed.
"That is not a requirement. All you need to do is sit in it," a male voice from above declared from the upper control booth.
"Father?" Shinji asked.
"Will you do this?"
"I don't understand! Why me?" he asked. "I won't do it!"
Cold eyes stared at him. "Very well. Bring the other pilot. Remove the 3rd child."
A medical gurney was rolled in with a hurt girl on it. The doctor just shook his head as he and two attendants started to help her sit up. A tremor shook the depths of NERV, almost sending the gurney crashing to the ground. Shinji ended up helping to hold her so she wasn't spilled on the catwalk. With a start, he realized that her bandages were starting to seep blood.
He turned to his father. "You can't send her in there! She'll be killed."
"Irrelevant. A pilot must be used or the world will end."
Another tremor struck, stronger than before. A weakly designed upper catwalk snapped loose. With a suddenness that was shocking, the inert form of the EVA blocked the metal from striking the cluster of people in front of it. Misato blinked, she could have sworn she saw a bubble of light appear for just a second around the group, under the hand.
"Ah!" Shinji looked up at the EVA. He seemed to be drenched in sweat and under a lot of stress. "I'll do it! Just don't force her to go."

Shinji had adjusted to breathing the LCL liquid. He could feel something around him. He gripped the controls. They seemed to be too simple to run a giant robot though.
"3rd Pilot vitals are nominal. Sync rate approaching threshhold... and passed it. Synchronization achieved." The blonde doctor looked up from her control panel. "He's doing remarkably well."
"Where is the angel?" the commander asked. He watched his son closely.
"It is nearing the outer perimeter."
Misato checked things out on her console. "Prepare to launch EVA. Send it up route 2B-32."
