"HIRAIKOTSU!" Sango shouted, as was her custom, as she threw her giant boomerang, which slew several demons before returning to her hand, while her demon firecat, Kirara used fang and claw in battle.
At the same time, Inuyasha used his sword, Tetsusaiga, to slay more demons and Kagome shot arrow after arrow at the demons. Normally, arrows such as the ones in Kagome's quiver would be little more than annoyances to these demons, but each arrow Kagome shot was charged with her spiritual energy, making each one extremely deadly to the demons, each arrow that hit its target blew a demon to pieces.
"Does Naraku have a surplus of cannon fodder?" Inuyasha growled as he slew several demons with one swing of his sword. "These guys are so weak, if there weren't so many of them they wouldn't be anywhere near a threat!"
"He means to wear us down with vast numbers of expendable demons!" Miroku deduced "Notice that Kagura has yet to enter the battle!"
"He's right!" Sango said "She's waiting until we're tired from slaying all the demons, then she will attack!"
"I wish she'd attack sooner than later!" Kagome called back as she fired another arrow "I'm running out of arrows!"
"So, they think they know the plan Naraku set out for me." Kagura quietly mused as she watched the battle "Little do they know, my role in the plan shall come long before this cannon fodder is all used up. Any minute now, in fact." the kimono-clad demoness grinned as she paid close attention to Kagome's rapidly emptying quiver
Kagura knew she had a short window of opportunity to gain maximum effect. At the moment Kagome fired her last arrow, she would be vulnerable. Not yet realizing that she was out of ammunition, if Kagome realized Kagura was attacking her, she would likely turn into the attack and reach for an arrow with which to try to counter it, an arrow which was not there. By the time the girl realized she was defenseless, it would be too late to dodge the wind sorceress's attack, and it would take a moment longer for her friends to realize what was happening, too late for any of them to save her. With Kagome dead, the effectiveness of Inuyasha's group would drop drastically. They would no longer have the girl's Sight to precisely target the jewel shards imbedded in the bodies of their demon opponents, she would also not be around to sense distant jewel shards anymore, allowing Naraku to find them first. In addition, her sacred arrows, one of which had horrifically injured the mighty Naraku long before Kagura had been created, would no longer be any threat to Naraku. It was the perfect plan, though Kagura secretly wished that Naraku would be killed by one so that she would be free of him.
*No point in wishes.* Kagura thought *I can't disobey Naraku, for he holds my heart in his hand, ready to squeeze if I falter or question him.*
Then, the moment came. Kagome fired the last arrow in her quiver, and Kagura did not hesitate. At the exact moment Kagome's last arrow left her bow, Kagura struck!
"DANCE OF BLADES!" Kagura cried out as she swung her fan, sending several glowing white blades flying towards the girl from the future
Kagome instinctively turned towards the enemy's voice, reaching back for an arrow that wasn't there. At the same moment, Inuyasha saw Kagome's plight. His eyes widened as he realized he was too far away to reach Kagome before the blades sliced her apart. He couldn't even think of using the Wind Scar to stop the blades because Kagome was standing in the path the attack would have to follow to do so. Barring a miracle, it looked like Kagome was about to die. The woman he loved was about to die!
"KAGOME!!!!!!" Inuyasha shouted at the top of his lungs as an invisible energy passed between them
Suddenly, the miracle Inuyasha had wished for happened. As Kagome moved her arms to shield herself, a futile gesture considering the blades would slice though them and her body without even slowing down, a glowing pink barrier appeared between Kagome and the blades. The blades struck the shield and shattered, the attack broken by Kagome's new power. Everyone was stunned by this development, including Kagura. She had been sure Kagome would be killed by her attack. Instead, she wasn't even scratched.
"Did... Did I do that?" Kagome whispered in surprise
"DIE PRIESTESS!" a mantis demon screamed as it threw itself at Kagome, it's razor sharp arms extended in front of it
Even as Sango threw her massive boomerang, Kagome thrust her arms out at the approaching demon and a wave of pink light washed over it, completely vaporizing the giant insect. The wave of energy kept going after the mantis was gone, heading straight towards Kagura who, thinking quickly, pulled a feather from her hair. The blast hit Kagura who quickly rose out of the stream of pink energy astride a giant feather which flew higher the farther it got from the battle. Inuyasha, Kagome, Sango, Miroku, and even Shippo and Myoga on the sidelines, could see that Kagura's kimono had been shredded by the blast, exposing the spider-shaped scar on her back that marked the demoness as one of Naraku's incarnations.
