Nuclear Fusion Senshi: What Was Past... [Episode 133493]

by Kender

In the darkness of his personal staging room, Jadeite smiled to himself. This was the sort of time that he liked, as one could plan and scheme all one would want and there was only the possibilities of what would happen to look forward to. It was the pleasure of a chess master who had all his pieces in place to win in a landslide without his opponent's knowledge. He liked being able to launch a sneak attack, and he sure as hell was going to take advantage of it.

Things would not go like last time, if he could help it.

Of course, when it'd all started, the 'Silver Millenium Project' had been one that everyone had thought would be a fantastic leap in human control of psychic phenomena. It took individuals of talent in varying areas, and allowed them to train their abilities to levels that wowed even the harshest critics. The genetic engineering that had gone on resulted in some very promising opportunities, and the scientists had hopes that they would succeed.

And then Serenity had come about. She was their golden child, the girl who became the woman who led the psychics into what seemed to be some daydream of light and happiness. Her powers had been immense, and she'd made every use of her powers seem simple. But she'd never lorded over anyone else, and she'd almost fallen into a 'queenly' role. There was even a daughter of hers, though whether she'd given birth or had a clone, no one ever really knew, since it was never said. For a time, everything had looked to be wonderful and full of promise.

That wonderful time was broken when the Flash came. The old world ended then, and the new one was a wasteland that begged one to do what had to be done to survive. When they'd awakened to that world, what they had known was gone. All the research was lost, and the easy lives that they'd led had become a thing of the past.

Beryl came up to oppose the 'golden girl' then. When Serenity created a peaceful place for them to live, Beryl rejected it, as she thought that they should use this opportunity to fight. She'd never liked or enjoyed being being under the 'blonde's thumb', as she put it, and had always been a rather aggressive individual. Her uprising, coming in the form of the more combative and nasty of the psychics and other test subjects, resulted in a battle that tore apart the town that the more peaceful ones had created and the ones that they were protecting.

In the end, it was Serenity herself who put a stop to their advance. It had cost her every bit of her life, but she'd managed to do what no one else could. Her power had utterly demolished Beryl's forces, and what was left had to pull back or let the destruction be complete. None of them would be able to fight for a long time, and they fell back to the only place that they could, one of the few remaining cryonic chamber systems left.

There they had slept, regenerating their power until they could awaken strong enough to fight again. Doing so took a long time before they could act again, but they were now back in a position to fight, with the added bonus of not having Serenity around. They couldn't go back to sleep, what with the equipment barely working the first time around, but now they had were in a better position to fight then they had been all that time ago.

He could sense the mutant come up behind him, and he didn't even turn to face her. "You are to go into the town and cause chaos. We don't care about any real damage. Just keep them off balance for as long as you can. Before long, we'll have them jumping at shadows."

"Yes sir," the long clawed being replied, and slipped away.

Jadeite smiled then, and drew himself up while:
