"Are you okay?" asked Asuka after they'd reached their destination.
"I was not the me that is I," said Rei after she'd thought a bit.
"Ya think?!" Asuka remarked with a snort.
"There was something else, something far older and more... primal," said Rei, again after silent moments of introspection. "Something bestial and primitive. It was most disturbing."
Maya simply watched silently from her position seated on a large box.
Again Rei tried to sort things out before giving a further analysis. "I retain only flashes of what has passed, but you two were there - and others as well. The I that is myself was there before being subsumed into something that was not I, but something else."

A white worm that twisted in the air. A room of shadows, with an odd diagram scrawled upon the floor. A room with dozens of her floating in yellow. A twin-ponytailed girl she did not recognize, standing in front of a room of children like herself - saying something.
"I am not sure," said Rei. "I do not know who is whom."
"Did it explain our magic?" asked Maya. "I can command wood. You are ice, Asuka is fire."
"Elemental magic," said Rei. "I think that it has less to do with our lives there, and more our summoning here."
"Well then, our course is clear," said Asuka. "We-"
