Great Will: Star Trekking Across The Universe? [Episode 134788]

In a typical universe of the Star Trek set, contact with extraterrestrials would not occur until the 21st Century when Zefram Cochrane touched off his experimental warp drive and attracted the attention of some Vulcans who were travelling in Earth's solar system at the time. Including communications, though the aliens had indicated that they had sent a message to their homeworld it was more accurate to state that they hoped that they had sent a distress signal to their homeworld.

As it was, they were:

• Klingons, the remains of a training mission gone terribly wrong.
• Andorians, whose ship had been damaged during an altercation with some Vulcans.
• Vulcans, a science team whose ship had suffered a set of catastrophic failures and dealing with this regrettable violation of their non-intervention doctrine.
• Caitians, new to space themselves.
• Something else
