In a time when certain attitudes were still to come, it was not quite the easiest thing to dismiss.
But the fact that they were aliens who could honestly be the males of the race, given what was known of them, and the possibility of gaining lots of technology allowed them to work past that. They greeted their visitors with the confidence of someone meeting a foreign dignitary, which essentially they were. Some paraded around like they were constantly considering the historical significance of the event, and others kept thier eyes flicking for any sort of trick or trap, but it turned out to be a rather quiet event, or as quiet as it could be.
The aliens informed the men that their race had the similar attributes as humanity, including in gender, and that they had wound up drifting by accident through space until they had managed to reach a planet where they could have landed. Unfortunately, their ship had barely made it there with the damage it had, and since none of them were able to do much to fix it, they'd had no choice but to land. However, they were happy that the natives were welcoming them with open arms, especially since the ship's passengers were mostly not warriors. They tried to be as accomadating as possible, and even if they had to wear the clothing they had arrived in for official functions, they had no problems in acclimating themselves to human norms. In fact, they were seemingly eager to do it, and were quite fast about it as well.
Of course, they didn't tell the humans exactly what they were, but tried to act as simply as they could, as just why they were so willing to do what they were asked was not something that they wanted out.
In any case, the beginning of their contact went quite well, and humanity got a wonderful first impression of the women and men of the DearS, while:
