Akane was not the only one infected with a magically, altered flu, she was but one of five girls from five seperate schools that was infected with five different strains of the same transforming flu.
The victims of these diseases didn't change much on first look. The primary changes were all very minor and developed slowly. This was purposeful, as it insured that they the disease would spread throughout as much of Japan as possible before its overall lifespan, limited by the magical energies that sustained it, reached an end. The magic would even insure the slow change of whatever clothing the infected owned, and their own idea that they were as they should be.
There would be no quarantines for the women of Japan, and before they knew it, they would find themselves taking on the characteristics of one of five different personality archetypes.
The first strand of flu would make the infected Japanese girls start taking on the appearance and attitudes of characters from feudal era Japan. Kimono-ed princesses, white-faced geisha, ninja-warriors and even commoners would develop dependent on the personality of the original girl or woman. The make-up would be permanent skin coloration.
The second strand of flu would be the most invisible, as it would encourage only more fetishized versions modern female roles. Whether secretaries, housewives or police woman. They would find themselves altering slightly. Extreme personalities would find themselves fitting in suddenly, sort of.
The third strand of flu would produce women than seemed more along the nature of gothic fashion followers. What many would take to be make-up, like with the Japanese-fuedal strand, would actually be skin coloration. Fragile night-flowers or leather-clad underworld badasses, the goths were coming.
The fourth strand of flu would produce western fantasy girls. Flighty princesses, half-naked barbarian amazons, slinky sorceresses and the like.
The fifth and final strand of flu would produce sci-fi themed women, cyborgs, pilots, bridge bunnies and the like would be making appearances. Again, what might seem to be neon makeup would also be actual skin-coloration.
None of the infected Japanese girls would still fit in the human species, no matter how much they appeared human.
The Japanese feudal strand would have incredible agility and chi understanding.
The modern strand would be nigh bulletproof and have an incredible instinct for manipulating emotions.
The goths would be incredibly adapted to night life, with incredible healing times and have an instinct for dealing with supernatural phenomena.
The western fantasy girls would be incredibly strong and have an incredible empathy for wild animals.
The sci-fi girls would be able to interact with computers and have an innate sense of the theories of the physical sciences.
And that was without the humanoids, aliens and demihumans they could resemble without seperating far from human.
Finally, all the girls would develop a "totem" and grow animal ears and tails any time they experienced extreme emotions.
Among the first to notice anything unusual was actually Ranma, as the changes kept coming over him in sudden spurts each time he changed to the Jusenkyo curse.
It was finally one morning that he landed in the water and stood up feeling...odd. Looking over himself and the other girls, he started to notice the changes that had been creeping slowly over the Tendo household, hidden by the magic.
