It worked like a charm. With his lack of knowledge about relativistic speeds, nor the space between the stars, he just wasn't aware that his plan was already screwed up beyond all recognition. Because of that, he didn't realise just how far from his homeworld he was gone. His only concern was that he get off this express ship to who knew where.
