"Shhh," Miki said irritably. "I can't hear."
"But I can't see!" Kimiko said in an emphatic whisper, leaning her head this way and that for a closer look.
"Quiet, I can't hear what they're saying," Chuzo said, irritably.
"So?" an irritable looking arachne girl said. "They aren't speaking Japanese, are they?"
"What are we doing hear?" a kali girl asked. "If they hear us we'll be in trouble. Those oni could eat us."
"And then Kasumi-sama well tell our mothers," a second nervous girl, a kumo, added in a low, hushed tone of dread. "And we'll be in trouble!"
A pair of spider legs reached up and planted themselves on a pair of shoulders.
"Kimi what are you doing?" Miki asked.
"Ouch!" the arachne added.
Stretching on her back legs, Kimiko slipped her grip a couple of times, her legs shaving off sections of the dry branch while trying to get a firmer grip.
"I want to..."

"There are certain plants that we need in our...."
The sound of a loud cracking accompanied by the shrieks of several surprised children cut off Kasumi's comment as the adults turned to look toward the pile of wood and kumojin young.
