Great Will: Noble Salusian [Episode 137757]

by Kestral

The Salusian were skunk-people. They had fur and the females had tails (the males did not) and expressive ears and muzzles. Despite the fur, which was short and thick, they wore clothes. A problem of this was building up static, but they coped.

For some time in human society, they used a transmogrifier - an Ancient technology not completely understood but which would allow them to go furless and tail-less in order to more fit in with their newest friends. As the two got used to each other, more and more that was becoming unnecessary.

Some saw the Salusia-Earth alliance as sort of a big brother/little brother relationship.

Some individuals hated the other species, some individuals became very enthusiastic about the other species, most fit somewhere between the two extremes. So some Salusians on Salusia might go around transmogrified and wearing human fashions and pepper their speech with "Earth-isms", or some humans might think furred sentients were an abomination - most simply came to accept that their interstellar neighbors had some "quirks" but were people. Admittedly not people like in one's hometown, but foreigners who just were a little more different than some.

The vast majority of those agreed that the humans in Vancouver who would wear aluminum foil helmets to keep the Salusians from reading their minds were just plain strange.

There were humans who found the idea of a mate with fur to be attractive. There were Salusians who found the idea of a mate without fur to be attractive. It seemed to be something about soft fur for the humans, and about the lack of static buildup for the Salusians, but it was a case of kinks coming together nonetheless.

The Conglomerate was ruled by a royal family in a manner that the British could relate to. Constitutional monarchy, though they'd done away with some aspects of the House Of Commons because there were an awful lot of decisions that had to be made by a single individual and were unpopular as heck. Everyone wanted the freeway, nobody wanted to pay for it. So Salusia's governmental system was one that left a lot of humans scratching their head and wondering how the heck it worked.

There WAS a royal family. There were also several lesser status families - nobility within the Salusian lines who frequently married into the royal family and then back out again. Wealthy but not incredibly so. It was from one of these families that the fiancee of Ranma Saotome was chosen.

Of course, if one were outside that universe, one would have realized that the Salusian Noble in question was an Analogue - someone who was this universe's version of another individual who normally wouldn't have met Ranma Saotome much less been engaged to him. Partly because they wouldn't have met, much less gotten engaged. Fur or not.

As part of the engagement, the currently-six-year-old human boy Ranma would spend some time transmogrified to near-Salusian form and on Salusia itself, getting to know his fiancee. After six months, the two would go their seperate ways until the time came for marriage (unless something came up, there was a provision if they hit it off well or absolutely couldn't stand each other).

Fortunately, the two DID seem to hit it off at least initially fairly well, as a still human Ranma met a little Salusian girl who was this universe's version of:
