The watcher knew this, but what he was watching was something as little as who walked at which side could make a major difference...
Gel packed her things as her grandmother looked on. The Amazon wasn’t taking much, especially since she didn’t know when she’d be back. A few changes of clothing, some jewels to exchange for money, and some momentos were all she put in the small pack. This wasn't a pleasure trip anyway; more like what an Australian might call a 'walkabout'.
"So you’re going to go through with this," Cologne commented. The lavender haired woman sighed. "Yes Grandmother. I have to do this."
"How is this going to help? Your husband is still dead child."
"That’s true." Her hands clutched the bag. "And it should have been me under that rockslide. The one time he grows a spine and he gets himself killed."
Cologne just looked at her granddaughter before commenting. "You still cared about him."
"That’s the worse part. I always tried to get him to try to do something on his own and he never did." Gel gave Cologne a grim smile. "Did you know that I still wake up expecting him to be waiting with breakfast ready every morning?"
"The rock slide was unexpected. No one could have known about it."
"Don’t you think I know that?" The younger woman glared at the other, then wilted under her grandmother’s gaze and her own aching guilt. "I’m sorry. It should have been me under that cliff, not Powder."
"We can keep going on about what should have been child, but that is pointless since it doesn’t change what is."
"I know and that’s why I’m doing this. Everything’s a jumble right now and I have to clear it out."
"You do know what some of those in the Council are saying."
"Let them say what they want to. We know what the truth is."
"Will you reconsider this?"
