That didn't mean that he was weak. Rather, he was very good at walking, to the point where he'd be able to go anywhere by foot. He'd always walked everywhere, and for a boy who was just starting out in life, it was the cheapest path too.
So, he got to walk along on a sun dappled path as the light filtered through the branches of the trees of the forest. This was truly a most natural setting, as he could see the feel the wind on his face, and step on spots that had never seen paving. He could feel the presence of the unlimited future upon his shoulders, and knew that he could approach it with dignity and confidence.
Instead, he was walking around with a goofy grin on his face, and a bit of a swagger to his step. He might be facing a new future, but he still was the same guy.
However, he did have to stop and sigh as his pokegirl seemed to need to dash around every place she could. After a few moments of trying to act like it was perfectly fine, he stopped and sighed. "What are you doing?"
Misty poked her head up and cocked it to the side in quizzical gesture.
"You're running around as if you can't stand keep to one path. You're supposed to walk with me, not around me."
"Hurr..?" she trilled, and then picked some flowers to present to him, almost as if it were an apology.
That was what Ash saw it as, but the act made him blink. "Those are nice flowers."
Her smile was bright in return.
"I guess I've got to get used to this..."
"Hmmm?"
"Don't worry. I'm not mad. It's just that you're running around like you're trying to see everything for the first time..." he began... and then smacked a hand over his face. "You are seeing everything for the first time."
She nodded slowly this time, having learned to be a bit more careful in doing so.
"Well, I don't mind you checking out things, but you've got to be careful. There are all sorts of dangerous things out there, like poisonous plants, hidden falls, and all sorts of wild pokegirls."
At the mention of the danger, Misty got into a defensive stance and began scanning the brush line with her eyes.
"You're trying to get ready for them, aren't you."
"Yaaah..."
"Good girl," he said, and ruffled her hair with one hand.
"Eeee..."
"Come on. It should be okay. Just stay with me."
"Mrrr..." she murmured in assent as she walked fixed at his side through the forest until they came across:
