Athrun wiped his eyes for a moment, looking at Cagalli sheepishly as he sat on the bed. “Sorry to break down on you like that.”
”If you apologize for bearing your feelings to me ever again I will beat you.” She warns softly, squeezing his arm. “I would have been worried if you hadn’t reacted like that…I mean…my God the entire war and all the events that happened within it were fucking insane.”
Athrun blinks softly; he’d heard Cagalli curse before but not that explicitly. “Sounds like I’m not the only one who needs a nap; you’re pretty cranky yourself.” He cracks a faintly smile and ruffles her hair.
”Yeah, yeah,” She grumbles, leaning into him. “Although, I am pretty damn tired,” She admitted after a loud yawn.
Athrun smiled gently, pulling her to him on the bed. “C’mere.”
Cagalli’s brain took a second to register this. ”Huh? Wha, wait I, you want us to share?” She stuttered.
Seeing her fidget, Athrun couldn’t help but smile a little. “Why not, saves you the trouble of finding a room, plus…I could use your company.” The last part was said very softly, almost as a plea.
The needy tone in his voice caused Cagalli’s hesitation to vanish as she gazed into those blue eyes. “You really want me to stay?”
He nods firmly.
Smiling she pushes him onto the bed. “Scoot over then.”
Athrun complied, moving over to allow Cagalli to crawl beside him. The space between them wasn’t much as the bed was intended for one person usage.
Cagalli kicked her shoes off and pulled the covers up. “It’s kinda cramped here.” Not that she really minded.
“It happens when two people share a one-person bed.” Athrun stated analytically.
“Thank you for stating the obvious Mr. Zala.” She remarked sourly.
“C’mon let’s just get some shuteye.” He chuckles, before letting out a yawn and resting his head on the pillow, snaking an arm around Cagalli’s waist protectively.
Cagalli felt herself blush at the arm around her waist, but also felt a relishing sensation of contentment. He softly cuddled against Athrun before shutting her eyes and allowing sleep to claim her as well.
On the observation deck elsewhere on the Eternal, Kira and Lacus were watching as the ship was approaching the PLANTS, getting closer and closer. A few ZAFT Mobile Suits buzzed about, but no in any threatening manner, more like escorts or simply assessing the ships.
Looking over at Kira’s lost in thought expression; Lacus softly placed a hand over his. “I can see a lot is on your mind; and I cannot but expect you to be considering all that has transpired.” When he turned his head toward her she continued. “Kira, can you tell me what is on your mind? Or is it too personal?”
Kira’s face contorted a bit with indecision. Then his gaze shifted to look out the window as his lips began to move. “I…I couldn’t save her.”
Lacus’s eyes welled with understanding. “The girl the Dominion picked up? Flay was it?”
”Yeah…I saw the Dominion’s escape shuttle as I was fighting Rau. He saw it too and fired a shot; I deflected it with my shield but then.” He trembles, “one of his bits shot the shuttle and I…saw her die.” He omitted seeing her spirit because he wasn’t sure if that was real or his sorrow-ridden mind was playing tricks on him.
Lacus softly held onto his arm, pulling him closer. “I’m so sorry Kira.” What else could she say? You did your best? No that would be a smack in the face; nobody wanted their best to fail, especially when lives were on the line.
Kira’s eyes clenched shut, part of him knew he couldn’t have done anything else, but yet he still wanted to save Flay. He wanted to sit down and talk with her, so that both of them could get on with their lives and put aside all hurt between them.
But that bastard Rau killed Flay, and he’d never have that chance for true foreclosure with Flay. None of the others or him would get too.
Lacus softly pulled Kira against herself as she let him cling to her. He didn’t cry, at least not yet. Whatever happens next though, she told herself she’d be there for him.
Meanwhile on the bridge of the Eternal Andrea Waltfeld yawned and stretched his right arm. “Urgh, DaCosta how long till we dock this tub?”
The red-haired officer turned in his seat to regard the Desert Tiger has Waltfeld was known as. “Not too much longer, we have to approach slowly so we don’t agitate the PLANTS or the ZAFT military on guard there. We’ll be within range of the dry dock soon.”
“Good, besides the fact we all need some rest these ships need to be fixed ASAP.” Waltfeld said.
“Why’s that sir? Didn’t we just win?” Another bridge crew member asked.
“Until I see a full-blown peace treaty between the PLANTS and Earth signed, and the additional disbanding of Blue Cosmos I ain’t gonna believe the peace is gonna last for a second.” Waltfeld said with utmost conviction unless those terms were made the peace would be a brief one.
DaCosta turned back to his station as the radio began to beep. “Sir, the PLANT has verified our ID, and has given us clearance to dock all three ships at port 34a.”
”Well then let’s not waste their generosity and put these tubs to where they can get fixed and we can take a breather.”
