Mars gave a loud snort, and gestured at the scenes playing before them. "Well, of course we can. It's right there."
"That's not what I mean. Think of it this way. What we're seeing is the past, as it were, okay?"
"We can understand that much."
"But the past makes us who we are now. With the past, our pasts, changing, it means that situations alter. And since that happens..."
"Who we are changes," Jupiter finished grimly.
"Exactly. You figured it out."
"I just saw my mother... hurt my father, and then jump out of the plane they were supposed to die in with the only parachute. Now she's sobbing in a different room while I wonder where my dad is."
"Okay. That would explain matters."
"So Mako-chan turns into a different person because her Mom..." Moon trailed off.
The Senshi of Ice pressed her lips together. "Not only that, but she also has her mother around. How good that will be, since she's now going to have to deal with what she did..."
"So what happens now?"
"It seems that a lot of women are taking themselves to the final judgement," Mars sighed, "It's probably been too much for them to remember before they could go on."
"And if they're not killing themselves, they're falling into the bottle. Like your Mom, Ami."
"It... it was always her dream to see every child leave with a smile. Now..." Swallowing hard, the juku student looked down at her feet.
"It wasn't her fault."
"Too bad everyone seems to think it is," Venus whispered.
"Excuse me?"
"Look. Everyone's making with laying blame. Women are blaming themselves, men are terrified of women, and children everywhere know that a lot of adults did a very BAD thing."
"That... is going to take a lot of therapy."
"Don't joke!"
"I'm not. What I said is serious. Everyone's got to be messed up..."
"And the women seem to be knowing that," Mars put in, "See? Half of them are so guilt ridden and hating themselves that they can't bear to 'burden guys with their presence'. Some of them are even going so far as to create communities where they would be kept away from guys to protect men everywhere. The ones who aren't isolating themselves are trying their hardest to make up for what they've done."
Jupiter tried to look hopeful, even if it was clear that she didn't expect anything to be happy about to happen. "That's good, right?"
"Not exactly. Women are basically getting close debasing themselves a lot of times. They're putting themselves at disadvantages that they would have never done before. A lot of them are coming close to making themselves guys' slaves... And it doesn't help that many guys have taken it upon themselves to take young girls so that they can bring them up 'properly' themselves..."
"Essentially setting them up to be controlled when they are grown," Mercury sighed.
"What about Mamo-chan?" Moon asked. "Is he okay? Is he doing it?"
The Senshi of Ice, Fire and Lightning looked at each other for a long moment, but didn't not answer.
"Can't you see? He didn't have a family after that car wreck... That left him an orphan... They didn't hurt him, did they?"
Another silence met her pleading gaze.
"I have to know. If I have to go through the Gates, I will."
Mercury looked away from the reincarnated Princess. "That might not be a good idea."
"What do you mean?"
"To get back to my original point, we can still watch because this place is not in the timestream. We're standing outside the past, present, and future. Here, we're protected. I can't guarantee what will happen if we go out."
"You mean something bad will happen?" Saturn murmured, speaking for the first time since they'd seen the results of Pluto's work.
"Possibly. If we leave here, we may wind up just stepping into the timeline. But we wouldn't be a part of it. We'd be remnants of the way things used to go, and there would be alternate versions of ourselves who would be living there."
"That would be good, wouldn't it?"
"Perhaps. Then we could do things there. However, there is a very real possibility that we could wind up fading into the timeline as it is."
"Leaving us as the girls who shared in the pain of losing guys they'd cared about," Mars said sourly.
"Exactly," the Ice Senshi confirmed to the depressed expressions of her friends, while:
