And they needed to make sure that Ranma had a proper meal. After all, he had spent the time that they were sick making sure that they got better. But in doing so, he'd obviously exhausted himself, and so made his sickness worse. Most males only got a tiny bit of what the girls had, but he had gotten something a little harder. It had only been enough to do what looked like a little toughening of his body, and had actually given him at least a bit of an endurance boost, but there seemed to be more going on there.
Nabiki had been the one to suggest splashing him, reasoning that he would need to gave cool water on him anyway, and that they needed to check certain things out.
What they had gotten surprised them only in that they had been thinking that this might have happened. However, once they realized that it had, they knew that there was little they could do but to help Ranma through this.
Still, it was clear that the Saotome Heir would be in for a big shock when she woke up.
Ranma slept fitfully, feeling the discomfort of her illness at the same time that exhaustion wanted her to stay as still as possible. Never being a quiet sleeper in the first place, she tossed and turned, trying to find comfortable positions, despite the fact that she never awakened. She just instinctually seemed to know that she couldn't stay in one place, and so she kept on moving.
That was because she had to adjust to her changing form. Being taller shifted things a lot, as her body was now longer limbed, and had a different center of gravity. Each of those sleek limbs were shapely, and her body had taken on a slightly less 'cute' look in exchange for something more mature. Her chest had definitely gained in size, but that was a bit more proportional to her getting taller rather than just leaving her too top heavy. The ivory of her skin stayed clear and youthful, and to any observer, she would have looked like a rather lovely young woman.
But the change in her ears marked her as not being the same anymore, as they were no longer in the same place, and were growing pointed. Then there was the tail slipping out from under her pants that made her unable to sleep on her back. And with the rest of her changes, it was clear that Ranma's girl side was becoming a full blown catgirl.
Had she awakened at that moment, she would have probably sworn that she would never change back from her still basically normal guy side again.
Fortunately, she was still sleeping, so the likely panic attack would be delayed until later.
Melodrama was something that a Kuno could always manage easily. It seemed to be in their blood, what with such shining examples as the self appointed 'samurai', and the Hawaiian fetishist. They were seen as rather eccentric by the more tolerant of people, and most expected that they'd make a production of even the littlest thing.
Such a thing was what Kodachi had done when she had discovered that she was ill. For a girl who tended not to become ill, being that sick had seemed like the end of the world. Her natural predilection for such things made her assume that she had to be dying, and if she were to pass on to the next life, she wanted to do it in the arms of her beloved Ranma-sama.
So she had crept into the house, fully intent on spending her last moments alive making certain that she passed her love onto him for all time... and from there it had not gone exactly how she had expected.
Despite the protests of his father and the head of the Tendo clan, he had picked her up and carried her to the room of that brute who was so wrong for him. Then he had made her comfortable on a futon that he had prepared for her, and cared for her with the same attention that she would have wished that she could give to him. If that was how she was to spend the end of her time on the planet, she would have done so gladly, and with peace in her heart.
But, as she opened her eyes, she looked upon what could not be heaven or the 'other place', for neither were supposed to look like Akane Tendo's bedroom, as far as she knew. She rubbed at her eyes, and sighed heavily, wondering why she did not feel that bad. Certainly there were still remaining aches and weaknesses, but she found that she actually felt better than when she had come there.
She couldn't stay there though, as it would not be right to stay in the room. Not because of any problem with the place itself, but rather that she was occupying someone else's floor. It wasn't the best of accommodations, and it was a bit of an invasion of privacy. Politeness demanded that she at least try to not burden anyone...
Yet, as she started to move, she realized that something odd had happened. Instead of feeling all annoyed with being 'tossed out' even when she hadn't been asked to leave, she was feeling rather... mellow. In fact, she was not sensing the extremes of emotion that seemed to be her birthright. For the first time, in a long time, there was no pounding drive to go over the top in any way shape or form.
About the only big feeling she had was a need to find Ranma Saotome. He'd been so kind to her, and she felt... felt... She didn't know what it was that she felt, as it wasn't the same chaotic and overwhelming sensation that she'd called 'love' before. This time it was a warmth that made her want to be with him, and... cuddle up on his lap.
Blinking slightly at the thought, she ran her fingers through her hair... and then stopped as she felt a pair of somethings on top of her head. Tugging them revealed that that they were a part of her, and she discovered that she had some control over them. Then the shift in weight on her backside registered, and she reached behind her to pull a new appendage to where she could see it. Upon seeing that tail, there was only on thing that she could do.
Bounding most inelegantly from the futon, she charged over to Akane's mirror and looked at herself in it, with her eyes wide as she realised what had happened.
"WHAT IS THIS?!" she yelled in honest and true shock, while:
