"...Gather us all together and return the rings to the sorcerer's workshop."
Ranma blinked. "That's it?"
Kodachi nodded. "Yes. You see, the sorcerer in question was almost killed by the people who didn't like that he had turned their daughters, sisters, fiancees, and/or wives into Genies. So he agreed to change them all back... once the task he was using them for was done. So there is an artifact that can undo all of this... but it will only work if all ten of the rings are together."
"No massive quest I need to complete first?"
"Not unless a new Pharaoh has conquered Egypt and started in on central Asia."
"Ahh... not that I know of..."
"Then no, there's no quest to finish first."
Ranma just shook his head and stared at the scantily clad genie. Kodachi primed a bit, even though the outfit wasn't quite the kind of thing she would normally wear...
"How do you know all this?"
Kodachi shrugged. "I'm the Genie of Shadows. Knowing mysteries and the like seem to be part of the deal."
"Ahhh... then do you know who the other genies are, and where they are?"
Kodachi thought about it. "I can tell you who they are, and what their domains are. But I can't tell where they are at the moment. I'll be able to sense them when we get close enough to their rings, but that's it."
Ranma sighed. It was never easy. "So who are the genies?"
Kodachi cleared her throat. "The genies are:
Myself, Kodachi, Genie of Shadows
Shampoo, Genie of Earth
Ukyo, Genie of Metal
Akane, Genie of Passion
Nabiki, Genie of Knowledge
Kasumi, Genie of Healing
Natsume, Genie of Ice
Kurumi, Genie of Fire
Hinako, Genie of Change"
Ranma nodded a bit, then blinked. "Hey, that's only nine! Who's the tenth one?"
Kodachi blinked. "Oops. I'm sorry, Master Ranma. The Tenth Genie is...
"That was a mental image I didn't need..." Ranma mumbled, looking sick.
Kodachi grimaced. She wasn't looking forward to finding that ring...
Ranma scratched his head, trying to remember who that was...
"Great, I bet Ryoga's real happy about that. Not."
"SAY WHAT?!" Ranma suddenly had a bad feeling about this...
