The woman with him was a half-elf as well, but not nearly so rough looking as Cid. She was tall like a human, slender like an elf, and armored like an elven battle champion.
Tao saluted. "General Celes!"
The woman returned the salute, then smiled. "At ease. I am General no longer. My country no longer exists."
Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie all looked uncomfortable for a few long minutes.
Seeing Tao wasn't going to be any help, Ranma went forward anyway. "Hey, I hear ya are going to this Xen'drik place to try out your ship and ya need some guards."
"True, you're an adventuring group?" asked Cid, eyeing the group and figuring out what each individual was.
"Yup," confirmed Ranma.
Tao brought forward their charter papers.
"Hmmmm," said Cid, reading it over and then passing it to Celes. "Interesting."
"Very," agreed Celes. "Cloud Strife? I believe I've heard of you. Ran into some sort of mind-shattering magic when you were on a mission and lost your memory as a result?"
Cloud nodded once, his eyes still searching the woman for some glimmer of recognition.
Noting the way the two girls got protectively closer to the young man, the corner of Celes' lips smirked just a little bit in response. "I don't believe we've met prior to this. We may have passed each other in the halls on a street - but I think I'd remember that spiky hair."
Cloud nodded again, once. He was a little confused by the two girls brushing up against him on either side.
