"Wow...that's quite a lovely song you're playing there, young man. What's it called?" Rey Za Burrel turned to address the custodian who had stopped to listen to him play the piano in the passenger lounge. He had finished paying last respects to his grandfather yesterday and was now waiting for his tranport shuttle to take him back to the Academy.
"It's an old song, composed centuries ago by a classical musician who went by the name of Bach. And the song is called Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring," replied the Cadet calmly.
"I see. It's quite a lovely song. Well, I better get back to my duties." The custodian turned around and directed his cleaning cart to another area that has to be taken care of. Rey checked the time, which turned out to be 0930 hours and noticed that it would be another hour or so until his transport arrived. 'Might as well step outside for a breather.' He did not need to worry about his luggage since it would be properly transferred by the staff once the shuttle arrived.
He then noticed that the custodian had dropped a small bottle of cleaning fluid that had probably dropped out from one of the custodian's deep pockets. 'I should go and return this. Now if I recall, he went that way.' Rey climbed up a stairwell and eventually made it to another observation lounge with a view of the PLANT Supreme Council Headquarters, their large garden which is being tended to by another employee and a large fountain in front to further add to the beauty of the structure. He heard some muttering from the custodian and was about to enter the lounge when he paused at what the custodian said.
"This goes here and voila! Instant sniper rifle..." The custodian took out another tool from his cart and proceeded to unscrew the bolts to gently open a window so there would be enough space for his rifle to poke through. "Time is now 0936 hours so the Secretary-General's envoy should be...there we go!!" Down below, several vehicles arrived at the PLANT Supreme Council Headquarters. One of the vehicle doors opened and Olbani stepped out into the open.
'The guy's gonna try and assassinate the Secretary-General?!? I have to do something!' Rey quickly came up with a plan and quickly threw the small bottle of cleaning fluid at another area of the lounge to distract the custodian's attention.
"What was that?!?" The young Coordinator saw his chance and ran into the room to tackle the custodian. Unfortunately, he put a bit too much strength into his tackle and sent the both of them crashing through the glass and down to the fountain below. The ZAFT and Earth Alliance guards looked startled as they saw two people crash out from above and right in front of them at the fountain.
Rey found himself extremely dizzy but he tried to get up anyway. When he came to, he saw the custodian grab his dropped rifle and aim it point blank at Olbani. "Die, Natural scum!!!" The cadet summoned his remaining strength to push the custodian, causing his shot to miss Olbani and graze a ZAFT guard. The remaining guards quickly took action and drew their guns. One of them shot the arm of the custodian, forcing him to drop his weapon.
"Get down on your knees!! Do it!!!" That was the last thing the custodian heard before he fell unconscious. This left a dizzied Rey Za Burrel, facing the barrels of about twenty-seven guns.
"Wait! That young man does not mean any harm. If you saw what he did, he stopped the true assailant who is lying unconscious. Get them both some medical attention!" ordered Olbani.
"Sir!!" After putting their weapons away, half the guards dragged out the custodian's body while the other half supported a tired and cold Rey.
'What a way to start the day,' thought the blonde cadet as his body flared in pain.
"So to whom do I owe my life to, young man?" asked Olbani gracefully.
"Rey Za Burrel, sir. And you don't owe me anything. Just being here to create peace between the PLANTs and the Earth is good enough," coughed Rey before he lost consciousness as well.
"My goodness!! Are you alright?" Yuri Amalfi, one of the members of the PLANT Supreme Council, had ran out when he was informed of the commotion occurring a few feet away from the Headquarter entrance. Gilbert Dullindal came up from behind with the intention of finding out what happened.
"I'm quite fine, thanks to Mr. Rey Za Burrel. I do hope that you would reward this young man for his bravery today," replied the Earth Alliance Secretary-General.
"We certainly will," replied Gilbert as he made a future note in his head to look over Rey's records to see how he can be properly rewarded.
"Shit...Graham blew it. The chief isn't going to be happy about this," muttered another groundskeeper to himself as he quickly turned away to continue caring for the Headquarter's garden.
