”The Duel and Gold Frame according to the lottery we set up to randomly decide the matches.” DaCosta answered as he brought up the list of matches on his monitor.
“Why do I have a bad feeling about that?” Cagalli muttered as she was also on the bridge so she could watch.
“Alright then let’s get started, Archangel, Kusanagi send out your suits and let the drills commence!” Andy said holding up his hand referee style.
Onboard the Kusanagi the Gold Frame was loaded onto the catapult; final system checks were initiated, and onboard the Archangel the Duel was going through its pre-launch check list one last time.
”Are you sure you’re ready for this Kou? I know you’re skilled but you’ve never gone up against Yzak or any of the others before.” Kisaka inquired of the new pilot.
“Thanks for the concern but I’m good. Besides it’s a sparring match, gives me a chance to get some more actual experience without worrying about dying if I screw up.” The young Coordinator replied as he gripped the control sticks. “Alright, Kou Uramecha, Gold Frame launching!”
The linear catapult activated, sending the mobile suit into space, its thrusters kicking in and taking off from the ship towards the battle area. At the same time the Duel flew out of the Archangel’s MS hanger and flew out to meet the Gold Frame.
“I hope you’re ready to go down Shrimp!” Yzak said over the com-line, readying his beam rifle. All the weapons had been set to training mode. Meaning beam shots would hit but wouldn’t cause damage and same with beam sabers. Instead the MS’s computer would register a hit and decide if it was fatal or just caused minor or disabling damage.
Kou grinned as he retorted. “I have five words to say to that Scarface! Bite my shiny metal ass!!” Kou roared, the Gold Frame holding up its right hand, flipping the Duel to the bird.
Yzak snapped. “I’M GOING TO KILL YOU SHRIMP!!”
”Bring it on ugly-boy!”
Murrue face-palmed as she overheard the radio chatter, “Good lord can’t they take this exercise seriously?”
“Oh man I wish I had a camera to capture Yzak’s face in that moment!” Dearka laughed from within the Buster’s cockpit.
Back out in space, the Duel fired off a few rounds from its beam rifle, only for Gold Frame to dodge the shots and return fire from the beam rifle built into the right arm. The Duel dodged these shots just as easily. Yzak aimed and fired a few shots from the Shiva rail gun mounted on the Duel’s right shoulder, and the Golde Frame deploys its Maga-no-Ikutachi (Living sword of Evil), the two long units move to deflect the rail gun shots with ease just as Gold Frame then accelerates toward the Duel.
“Going for close combat huh? Two can play that.” Putting his beam rifle in its designed back holster, the Duel drew its beam saber and accelerated towards Gold Frame.
“Wait, for it, wait for it…now!” Kou had Gold Frame draws its own beam saber and clashed with the Duel’s. The Maga-no-Ikutachi units pivoted around and clamped onto the Duel’s shoulders.
”What the hell?” Yzak exclaimed as he noticed the power battery was starting to drain.
“These units are designed to drain a mobile suit of power, pretty nifty huh?” Kou mocked Yzak.
“Shut up! You’re not beating me!” With that, the Duel broke free and back-boosted away to get some distance from Gold Frame.
“Not bad Scarface, but I won’t make it easy for you to win.”
”Same goes to you Shrimp!”
