Just that she had shown up, while the airship was above one cloud deck and over open water, indicated that she was likely a formidable opponent.
Tao stood ready but wary.
He didn't stand alone for long.
The young shifter flung himself out the door, rolled to come up in a combat pose, and froze on seeing the intruder. "KIKYO?!"
The priestess came after him. "Kikyo..."
Ranma scratched his head. "Kikyo?"
"Don't look at me," indicated Cid. "You kids wanna explain?"
Kagome held her bow ready but didn't point the arrow just yet. "Inuyasha knew her before she was turned into an undead."
"You brought a %#@#$ undead on board my ship?" growled Cid.
"Some kinda ghost?" asked Ranma.
"A little worse than that," admitted Kagome.
"How #@%*$ worse?" asked Cid.
"You can stop talking about me as if I wasn't here," said Kikyo, mildly annoyed. "Hello, Inuyasha."
"Kikyo? Why are you here?" Inuyasha said, looking very very uncomfortable.
"You are going to Xen'drik, Inuyasha," said Kikyo. "Don't forget that your life is mine."
"Some kinda curse?" Ranma asked Kagome.
"Not exactly, it's kind of complicated," responded Kagome.
"Do you mind?" asked Kikyo.
"If you would explain your connection, it might facilitate matters," said Tao.
"Warforged," said Kikyo dismissively. Her eyes glowed briefly. "Come, Inuyasha."
Ranma lifted a stanchion from a nearby mast, dropped it, briefly balanced it on one foot, then kicked out with enough force that he could have leapt to the roof of a building.
WHACK!
Kikyo staggered backwards.
Inuyasha shook his head, clearing it.
"Using your charm ability - that's a cheap shot," complained Kagome.
"Oh, and what of what you were doing?" asked Kikyo.
"ME?!"
"I don't get it," said Inuyasha.
"Join the club," said Ranma.
"Humans," complained Inuyasha.
"Nah, it's girls," said Ranma. "Never could figure 'em out, even with this curse."
"You might have a point there," agreed Inuyasha.
"Hey!" exclaimed Kagome.
"If you two are done?" asked Kikyo, stepping onto a railing.
"Yeah, I guess," said Ranma.
"Inuyasha, do not forget that your life is mine to take," said Kikyo, stepping off the railing and falling out of sight.
"She always this dramatic?" asked Ranma.
"I guess," said a scowling Inuyasha.
"Girl problems, eh? Guess I can relate," said Ranma, leaving it at that. At least none of them had been vampires or ghosts or something. That could have been seriously creepy. Well, Kodachi was pretty creepy - maybe she was close enough.
Kagome seemed to find something offensive in all this, or at least she acted like that as she went back inside the ship.
"Chilly," said Inuyasha, not meaning the thin air.
"Tao, ya okay?" Ranma asked of his student.
"No current difficulties," responded the warforged.
"Yer girlfriend ain't gonna show up again, is she?" asked Ranma of the shifter.
"She isn't exactly my girlfriend, I'm just kinda responsible for her," said Inuyasha.
Ranma smiled ever so slightly before he shivered and decided to get belowdecks. Man, it was a good thing he'd never ended up with that kind of thing.
