"What was that supposed to mean?" asked Ranma, wondering why this gal seemed kinda familiar to him. Maybe it was her scent?
"Aheh," said Kagome, quickly holding one hand up in apology. "Sorry... There's this boy I know who has this spell on him that makes him react when I say that... and you are so similar to him."
"Huh," said Ranma, filing that away. Someone else had to deal with curses and such? He had been ready to just walk off but this had possible uses. He didn't have the Jusenkyo curse any more, but what if it came back?
Kagome was staying away from the Bone Eaters Well in order to keep from going back and infecting everyone in the ancient past. She didn't understand the paradox, but she did understand responsibility.
It was face to face with this OTHER dog-boy that she realized something else. "Oh no... HE'LL COME AFTER ME!"
"Whoever he is, he ain't getting past me," said Ranma, who was thinking stalker.
Kagome realized that and waved her hands frantically. "No no no. It's not like that. He's safe where he is. If I don't show up though - he'll come looking to see why I'm not back!"
"Okay," said Ranma, filing this away as more girl-stuff he didn't understand.
"I've got to get back!" Kagome declared, turning and running.
Ranma frowned as he was having trouble holding his pace back to match her. Maybe she would let something slip and all this girl-stuff would finally make sense to him. "This guy's your boyfriend or something?"
WHAM! went Kagome, ironically having the exact reaction she'd hoped/dreaded to get out of the wolf-boy a few moments ago.
"You okay?" asked Ranma.
"It's not quite like that," token-protested Kagome.
"Hmmm," said Ranma. "Where ya heading?"
"Higurashi shrine," she said. "There's a park not too far away that has a bus stop."
Ranma sniffed the air, orienting himself. "Gotcha. Get on."
"WHAT?" asked Kagome, getting an odd deja vu as the boy knelt and presented his back. She could almost see Inu-yasha superimposed over this dog-boy. Or wolf-boy might be accurate, especially with that tail.
"Get on," said Ranma. "I can get ya there faster. While we're going there maybe ya can explain why ya thought I was this 'dogdemon' guy. He look a bit like me?"
"Sort of," admitted Kagome, getting on. It felt very familiar.
"Thought so," said Ranma, straightening as he felt her shift her weight. Maybe this guy would be someone he could compare notes with. Get a better handle on what he could do with these new talents.
As they sped along the trail a thought caused Kagome's eyes to widen. If SHE were a reincarnated Kikyo, then perhaps this was a reincarnated Inuyasha?!
Ranma was trying to understand why this gal seemed to have a scent he associated somehow with his mother.
"I didn't know half-demons could catch diseases," grumbled the old man, his third eye blinking in unison with the two others.
"I don't think it's a normal disease," qualified Kagome's mother.
"That's kinda obvious," said the foxboy sniffing at Inu-yasha.
"Kagome's returning," announced the shrine priest, standing up with two eyes closed and his third one staring off into the distance. "Someone's with her. An unfamiliar aura."
"You're really getting the hang of that thing," said the little foxboy admiringly.
"I'm still learning, but it does seem to have its uses," agreed the shrine priest, all three eyes half-closing as he smiled.
Tatewaki Kuno stood atop the clock tower of Furinkan Senior High School and dreamed his little dreams.
Insanity was cured as part of the last bit of the disease. Personality traits remained. Tatewaki Kuno still coveted a few things. While he could easily have turned his libido down as many of the school perverts had, it made it easier to study for one thing, he had chosen to bring it up to what he regarded as proper levels.
In other words, he was still deluded - it was simply a delusion he preferred rather than face reality.
His nature had been as a samurai and one born to a high station, and while he no longer felt immersed in a badly written samurai story - he felt his new form reflected something of his most inner nature.
