SLAM!
The door to his apartment closed behind Makoto Hyuga with the finality of a six shooter's hammer. He let out the mother of all deep breaths. The day... is OVER!
A smile came upon his face as he celebrated the brief respite from working in what a member of NERV 2nd Branch in the US had called the "Temple of Doom." In his arms was a carry-out box of yaki soba he picked up on the way home and the smell was making him drool.
As was routine, he reached into the mail box< in his door and pulled out the expected bil- wait... He pulled a rectangular package out with several white envelopes.
Could it be?
He ran quickly to the kitchenette which the small entry hallway led to and set his dinner down on the counter. He tore the brown paper off the rectangular box and beheld the uncovered contents.
At last! My February shipment from the Japanese Anime Classics Appreciation Society. Genesis Climber Mospeada! Little tears streaked down his face.
He exited the the kitchen to his left and stepped into the living room. To his left was a double window looking out on the neighborhood with his fifth-story view, while to his right was a door leading to the bedroom, with the bathroom entrance inside. Directly in front of him was a couch angled to face his home entertainment system: a 40” High Definition plasma screen, DVD/VCR, Sony surround sound, and several antiquated game consoles from before the Second Impact.
The spectacled bridge bunny, he still wondered who came up with that, opened the Collector’s Edition box set and prepared to insert the first disc -his dinner already forgotten- and stopped cold. The inside information sheet lay before him, a familiar red and white aircraft with delta wings and its blue-white and green-white companions depicted fighting insectoid mecha.
He easily recognized the fighter from the report the Pacific Fleet gave NERV. A picture from one of the CIWS gun’s cameras had been paper clipped onto it.
Makoto reached to the coffee table beside the couch and pressed the speed dial button for Captain Katsuragi’s apartment.
And in the electrical room of the apartment building, a small device connected to the phone box began transmitting a signal to NERV HQ.
