Tom Riddle sighed. It was going to be a long, long day today, that was to be sure...
"Professor Dumbledore, what a suprise to meet you here!"
Not that he hadn't known the old menace was going to be here. But knowing and actually seeing were a different matter entirely...
"Especially since you're supposed to be--well, actually, are--standing in line this very moment. What did you use, a twinning spell?"
Not that Tom thought it really was anything that simple. His tracking spell-nets still insisted that the old horror was standing in the short line in the reception.
Though what the he seemed to be using to ensure their privacy seemed like some kind of super-charged Notice-Me-Not spell, which wasn't a very difficult spell basically, to be sure...
"Come now, Tom--You wouldn't mind if I called you Tom, would you? --Please let an old man keep his secrets. I can't have everybody knowing all my little tricks, now can I?"
"Not at all, as long as you let me call you Albus, Professor. "
Dumbledore looked more then just a little miffed, which raised Tom Riddle's spirits no end.
"--Of course, Tom. Surely."
"...It's a lovely party, Headmaster, don't you think?"
"...Indeed, indeed. Lucius and Narcissa seem to have outdone themselves, haven't they? And the baby appears to be--healthy, at the very least."
How could the old man make hackles rise up his spine like this, even now?
"...He's quite Magical too, I believe."
"Yes, so I have heard. It's quite odd, you know. ...I'd thought that it was perhaps because the child was a squib...but it seems not."
Tom Riddle gritted his teeth.
"What in the world are you talking about...Albus?"
"--Hmph. You did not notice? ...Well, perhaps you wouldn't. The child--Draco is his name, yes?--appears to be quite healthy and undeniably Magical, to be sure--but..."
"Albus. Please get to the point."
"--The child does not feel like a Pureblood at all, to be frank. --Much less a Malfoy."
Tom Riddle Did Not Agree.
"Not to mention the poor child's looks. He must take after his Pettigrew great-grandmother or something-- If it wasn't for the hair-color and the eyes, I don't think he could pass as a Malfoy at all, the poor thing"
"..."Pass as", Headmaster?"
"Ahh, a slip of the tongue, my good man. --The proad parents aren't listening on the sly, are they? --Well yes, it seems like it's all right. I'd seriously wondered if the Malfoys had gotten desperate enough to try to pass off a Half-blood byblow as the Malfoy heir or something, but now that I've gotten a chance to actually see see the poor child...probably not. ...It must be just One Of Those Things, I suppose!"
Damn him to the netherhells. If such a thing existed. Which he doubted.
