Replay-HP and Co.-Starlight, Starbright: Recollections : The Mini-Malfoy Incident (16) [Episode 140917]

by Linnara

Tom Riddle wasn't very suprised when the old so-and-so simply melted away from view with a absent-minded-looking nod and a twinkle, even as he watched. His spell-webs had shown him that Albus Dumbledore--the real one, not the projection (he assumed) he was speaking to--was about to reach the beginning of the quere, and he probably wanted to concentrate on Lucius and Narcissa for the moment.

Though the thought of--that--being whethen touching distance of poor Draco was more then a bit forbidding, to be sure...

And just what was that old horror story going to natter to the Malfoys about, anyway?

("Ahh, Lucius, Narcissa! ...What a beautiful child you have...")

Don't even think about it, you nasty Gandalf lookalike. Gandalf, Gandalf...now that was a name to conjure memories with.

Tom smiled, remembering that particular white-haired old man and the hijinks he used to get in in the muggle world and beyond. He'd been quite dead by the time that muggle he'd ended up treking through Spain with had actually written Those Books, but he'd have probably been tickled pick if he'd realized how that muggle had casted him--or rather, the character quite obviously based as him--as...

But Gandalf was long dead, and Dumbledore was not, more the pity.

("What a healthy-looking child!")

That really is quite enough, you.

Put. Him. Down.

At last. Yes, Narcissa, I don't think the old thing has stolen any fingers...

("What an wonderful Ball, Lucius, Narcissa.")

Yes, yes, now go bother somebody else, all right?

But it seemed Albus Dumbledore had other ideas.

("Lucius--Have you seen Mr Riddle the Apocatharist, by the way? I never expected to catch sight of him here, but there he is. He was such a brillent student, once...One of the most memorable of the Slytherin Head Boys, if I recall correctly.")

("He was a Slytherin? In must have been a long time ago, Headmaster...")

("Indeed, indeed, time flys so quickly when you're my age, you should know. More like your father's age. Or your grand-uncle Draconis, perhaps? It was a hard time for Halfbloods generally, with Grindelwald stirring up trouble, and we never thought he'd manage to graduate once he'd been Sorted in Slytherin...But Tom was always such a resourceful boy")

Lucius furrows his brows.

("A Halfblood Slytherin who made Head Boy? I never heard of such a person, Headmaster.")

(--How strange...And he had quite a following too, once. Popular in his own way, if you know what I mean.)

Dumbledore, Dumbledore, Dumbledore...

Well, all right, it was Dumbledore. "Subtle" and Dumbledore had always been careful to keep their distance from each other, he knew that...

Tom percived Lucius and Narcissa look at each other and shrugg, slightly, and sighed.

Softly.

Why would they care what Tom Riddle the Apocatharist had been, or still was, once upon a time?
