Kasumi was in the kitchen. Nabiki was reading manga in her room, occasionally munching on a chocolate-filled koala cookie. Akane was lifting weights in the dojo. Soun was reading the paper.
The sound of a helicopter going overhead was ignored. So was the sound of a second helicopter.
Helicopters circling - that was unusual enough to begin penetrating that something was up. Had anyone, anyone, thought to turn on the TV or a radio - they would have gotten a clue.
As three Tendo family members (Kasumi was still in the kitchen)went out their front door, music could be heard off in the distance, getting louder.
"A parade? Is it the Weaver Festival?" asked Soun, wondering why he hadn't seen anything in the paper about it.
"... handsome is he,
Prince Rannie... "
"A marching band?" Nabiki asked as a snatch of lyrics was heard on the breeze.
"I don't... AAAAAA!" Akane yelled, pointing up.
There, gliding gracefully through the air in full contradiction of the usual laws of aerodynamics, a huge dragon whose scales glittered like bronze passed a few hundred feet above the Tendo home. It raised its mouth and made a bugling noise.
"... his pop made an oath in the past,
ignoring it would be quite crass,
he's definitely not such an ass!
Not Prince Rannie!... "
The Tendos (Kasumi had joined at this point) watched as news vans slowly drove up the street in front of their house and began raising their transmission masts.
More dragons pirouetted in an aerial dance overhead. Their cries sounding clearly even over the approaching music.
The gates slammed open as newsmen scrambled inside, taking up positions all over the lawn. Nabiki, ever ready to make a profit, showed a few the ladder so that they could set up on their roof. Then dashed down to her room to find something to wear since whatever was going on was apparently nationally televised!
Elves in carpenter outfits began widening the door to the front yard.
Kasumi went "oh my" and went back inside to fix some tea.
"The old agreement is why,
He got all dolled up and dropped by,
He's simply that kinda guy!
It's Prince Rannie!"
With a bash and a clash the elven calvary came to a halt lining the path.
With a thump and a bump, the ogre infantry came to dress parade rest at guard positions.
With a cry through the sky, the dragons wheeled overhead in a colorful pattern.
Except for muttered inane commentary from various reporters, things went silent abruptly.
Riding a ebony black (though with some discolored scales) dragon, a boy entered the meager front yard of the Tendo house.
Plain his clothing, but on his brow was a golden circlet. He slowly got down, murmurring something to the dragon and placing his hand on her neck briefly.
Squaring his shoulders, the boy strode confidently up to Soun Tendo and bowed. "Lord Tendo. My father has spoken highly of you. I am Prince Ranma."
"Gah?" said Soun, a little freaked out by all this.
Noting the girl next to the man, Ranma remembered his coaching prior to this meeting. He had to appear gallant and cultured, didn't he?
"You must the lovely daughter of Soun Tendo," said Ranma, lifting a limp hand to his lips in order to kiss her hand. He was pretty sure he'd gotten this part right.
Akane shook off the shock. Boy kissing her hand? Acting like Kuno? "YOU PERVERT!"
The silence before was as nothing to this one as the boy kissing the girl's hand was suddenly kicked in the crotch hard enough that he landed three feet away in a curled up groaning heap. Even the crickets were silent as far away as Yokohama. Even Nabiki (now in a floral print yukata) and Kasumi (with a nice hot cup of tea) as they emerged from the house saw this and were at a loss of what to say.
Akane realized that she'd been aiming at a kick to the head but the boy kneeling like that and the angle... Well he was a pervert anyway right?
