Prince Ranma: Retreat is a valid tactic [Episode 77879]

by Kestral

It was a dead silence such as hadn't been seen in Japan since the Taisho era.

Even the breeze seemed to go off and hide in the nearest shelter.

Akane looked up, noting all the cameras pointing at her, with all the various reporters and camerapeople - gawking at her.

The ogres, elves, unicorns, dragons, and even the little halflings that had been scattering flower petals seemed to have trouble believing this had happened.

In various living rooms across Japan and belatedly across the world, people were likewise staring at the abrupt and unexpected end to the pageant. The romantic moment with drifting flower petals and everything going for it had just derailed, run off a cliff, and exploded.

Akane looked around her briefly, then pointed at the curled up figure of the prince. "HE WAS BEING A PERVERT!"

The groaning prince was picked gently up by a couple of elves, loaded on to the black dragon, and the procession packed up and left without another word.

"b-b-b-b-but," said Soun. "The two houses. The engagement. Family honor."

He was soundly ignored. The cameramen and reporters listened to their newsdesks, who were rewinding and analyzing the footage from every angle in order to find the perversion involved.

Akane turned in a somewhat confused huff and marched back into her house.

Nabiki smelled a chance to profit from this and approached a few of the media.

REPORTER: So you're saying, Miss Tendo, that your sister is just a violent maniac?

NABIKI: That's a direct quote from my older sister. I tend to agree with it, but that's neither here nor there.

REPORTER: Even so, why did she attack the prince? Analysis of the tape indicates nothing perverted taking place. Did she see or hear something?

NABIKI: Actually there's a local boy who acts the same at school and has been hounding her unmercifully for several months now. He attacks her regularly, has arranged for most of the underclassmen to try and gang up on her. It was inevitable that she'd snap sooner or later.

REPORTER: I see that your family practices martial arts, could that have been a contributing factor?

NABIKI: I don't know about 'practicing' - my father rarely does anything that might be considered practice, and neither my elder sister nor myself have any interest in the martial arts ourselves. Akane is the heir though - Tendo School, Anything Goes Martial Arts Indiscriminate Grappling.

REPORTER: So she's an expert martial artist who could go on a vicious rampage at any point?

NABIKI: Well, I suppose. We don't have any money to sedate or take care of her. (Holds up sign) That's why I'm asking for contributions to the Restrain Akane Tendo Fund, so that we can get her the help she so very desperately needs.

REPORTER: So there we go. Back to you in the studio, this was Nuke Usagimaru live at the Tendo Compound.

"My own sister," said Akane with a scowl directed at Nabiki.

"Girl's got to make a living," replied Nabiki.

"...but the engagement..." blubbered Soun in the background.
