"Shampoo just realize something strange."
"What's that, sugar? This whole set-up's more than a bit strange."
"That too true, but this beyond that. Shampoo know she should feel jealous of Kitchen Destroyer being with airen, or aroused at finally being with airen, but Shampoo not. Not really."
"You have a point, gaijin. While the show is most fascinating and riveting, none of us are reacting as one might expect."
"Oh dear. You think maybe our negative emotions are being suppressed? Perhaps so we don't panic or something?"
"Sounds good sis. That explains why none of us are frigging ourselves off at the show, also. Can't have us wasting our energy before our turn comes."
"What? Oh, that. It's a trick a friend of ours managed to teach her to protect herself. Basically allows you to conjure up a weapon out of thin air that's absolutely perfect for you but damned near impossible for anyone else to use. Unless they happen to be really stubborn and strong willed. She's nowhere near as good at it as he is, since her conjurings quickly vanish away."
"Ectoplasmic conjuring?" Karin interjected. "I've heard of it. You're basically opening up a pinpoint hole into the astral plane and pulling out substance. It's a minor side benefit of a teleportation technique."
"Teleportation?"
This drew Sakura's attention from the coupling couple. "Wait a minute. You're saying that this guy has an open tap to the astral plane, allowing him to sustain a conjured weapon indefinitely, but you're surprised at the idea of a teleportation technique."
"Well, Ryouga does tend to get lost all the time."
"And he's always got these souvenirs from all over the place."
"Not to mention the fact that he frequently seems to think himself as being anywhere but where he actually is."
"Even continents away."
Karin and Sakura's eyes met and rolled. "No wonder. The basic technique involves opening a personal portal through the astral plane, then traveling through it. If he's got a pinpoint portal open continuously, then he's got astral energy leaking through and saturating him."
"At some point that energy will reach critical and the pinpoint portal will iris wide open. And since he's obviously unaware of the core technique..."
"He won't have any control over where he ends up. Having other people around him, paying attention to him, tends to slow the overload, but it won't stop it."
"In fact, it only makes things worse when the energy can release. He won't vanish accidently while he's being watched, but when he does, he'll go much further afield."
"The energies will also wreak havoc with his sense of direction and his inertial memory. Not only will he be unable to tell where he's going, he'll also be unable to tell where he's been or where things or people that have passed out of his field of sight have gone."
The others blinked at this. "That explains a lot about Ryouga. It explains a lot indeed. Him and the rest of his family."
"So why hasn't Akane had any of those problems, yet?"
"Simple. She hasn't managed to sustain a continuous pinhole portal yet, so the astral energies never get a chance to build up."
"Artemis has gone missing."
"What, again! That lazy fleabag is probably just off playing around somewhere."
"Can it, Luna. You remember what happened the last few times he vanished."
Luna's jaws snapped closed with an audible clack.
"Okay, I suppose you want me to consult the sacred flame for a vision, then."
"I'll run a search with my computer at the same time."
"Felt something odd though, earlier. Chaotic, but not an actual threat per se. It might cause some problems."
"If we can't find anything here, we'll go check it out. Given Artemis's luck, he's probably all wrapped up in it."
"In more ways then one."
"I wonder who'll be next?"
"Does it really matter? We're all getting it in the end."
Like Sakura and Ranma before, Akane and Ranma separated in the manner of lovers comfortable in their actions. While Sakura moved to replace Ranma in making love with Akane, Ranma himself moved on to his next fiancee.
