That simple fact made it that much more painful. She could not fault them for a mistake no matter how much she wanted to. Jamie had only put his soda down to take a better look, and Coop was only fulfilling her request and showing her all the access points. He might have been a little over eager and not watching where he was going, but really, she was surprised that he could see his own feet to put on his shoes.
For the first time since she had arrive, no, since the Glorft had invaded her world, she outwardly showed weakness. Slowly tears began to fall from her eyes. She could not help it no matter how much she tried.
"I'm sorry, Kiva," Coop stammered, "I didn't see the can…"
"Kiva…" Jamie asked in shock. "Are you crying?"
She looked up at him through angry red tear stained eyes, "What Jamie? What of it? Are you going to say something sarcastic and rude?"
Jamie paused for a moment, and did simply the last thing she ever would have expected from him. He pulled her into a hug, and not a perverted hug where he tried to cop a feel, but an honest to goodness comforting hug.
Kiva enjoyed Jamie's sudden show of humanity, remaining in his embrace for what seemed like an eternity. She never really was a hug person, but under the right conditions, she could see why folks enjoyed them.
"Hey, Kiva," Coop stated, "I'm sure we can fix it…"
Kiva glanced down into the hatch and sighed.
"I doubt that…"
Coops glanced down and winced. The time drive controller was smoking and crackled with electricity. It was totally burnt out.
"I guess your right…"
Kiva stood up and brushed herself off. "Oh well, I guess we have to figure out where… or WHEN we are now."
She summoned her holographic display but paused when she saw the readings.
"Coop…"
"What?"
"Was anyone down here before?"
Coops shook his head. "No. Why?"
"Because I'm picking up nine life signs in there. There should only be three…"
