"Mariyagaran Makendo!" Naru called.
She felt a wave of energy and then her body convulsed, as she fell forward. Naru saw the room spin and go dark.
"Naru!" came a chorus of voices.
Naru woke up to four concerned faces staring at her. Usagi had tearstains on her cheeks. Doro was concerned, but didn't look overly worried. Naru saw she was lying in a bed and the room was completely white. She absently noticed that her body was tingling.
"What happened?" Naru whispered.
Doro shrugged. "I didn't take into account all the times you have been drained. Your body reacted differently than what I was expecting. You should be okay now to use your Makendo device."
"It almost killed her," Usagi objected.
Doro shook his head. "No, her body was getting adjusted to the new power. Apparently her biosystem thought the Makendo energy was some energy returning to her. Just how many times has Naru gotten drained by various types of monsters?"
Usagi and Naru said in unison, "A lot."
Doro nodded. "As I thought. Besides Usagi, Naru has to use it if she wants to live at least a somewhat normal life."
"What do you mean by that?" Naru asked.
Doro held the golden sword towards Naru. "Take it and try again."
Naru looked at Doro as if he were insane. Doro just smiled.
"Please try," Doro said. "You won't have the same reaction, as you did."
Naru hesitantly took the sword. "Mariyagaran Makendo!"
A flash of light and Naru felt the tingling sensations go away. The sword vanished and Naru got up out of the bed. She then looked at herself and noticed that she was wearing her ordinary clothes. Confused, her eyes met Doro's
"Shouldn't I have transformed into a Makendo from doing that?"
Doro said, "Detransform and you'll see what happened. Just think of the sword forming in your hand."
Naru did so and felt the tingling sensation return and the sword form in her hand. She then noticed she was wearing the Makendo outfit that was designed for her.
"What's going on?" Naru asked.
Doro replied, "Due to all the times you have been drained, your body has accepted the Makendo energy as your normal energy and need the sword to suppress your powers. Bluntly, your transformation got reversed."
"What does that mean?" Naru asked.
"It means that from here on out that your normal form is a Makendo and your transformed state is ordinary Naru Osaka. You will have to transform if you want to have a somewhat normal life."
"Why?" Naru asked
"Your costume is part of who you are, right now. If you changed your clothes or stripped to take a bath, your outfit would reform by either altering the clothes you are wearing or appearing out of thin air."
Mai and Hikari looked at each other.
"Doro, could this happen to Hikari or myself?" Mai asked.
Doro sighed and shrugged. "It has always been a risk if you used your powers too much."
"Great. That's just what I need. Waking up one day and finding that I'm permanently stuck in my Makendo outfit," Mai muttered.
"I've told you before, you have the looks for it," Hikari said impishly.
"Getting back on topic," Doro said. "That sword is normally supposed to disappear, but it looks like it might have become a weapon for you to use and you need to transform to ordinary human to recharge it, explaining how it can keep you in your human form. It recharges itself by draining your Makendo energy. If you are dazed or violently knocked out, you will transform back into a Makendo instantly."
Naru closed her eyes and sighed. She dropped the sword, which vanished. Naru blinked and stared at where the sword had vanished.
"You didn't need it, so it shifted to subspace. Just will it back into your hand, and it will be there."
"How do I learn how to use my powers?" Naru asked.
Mai and Hikari walked up to either side of Naru.
"That's where the two of us come in, Naru," Mai said.
"We do own a dojo, although we can't officially teach until we qualify," Hikari added. "Who knows, maybe we should make our dojo the place to go to train magical girls. We do live in a remote area and have access to an emptier are of the Spirit World where we can really unleash our powers."
Usagi, who was quiet and had finally got her emotions back under control, quietly said, "Something like that would have helped out against Beryl."

A one-meter tall person, whose brain shaped head took up a third of his body, exited a storm sewer in Tokyo. The person's was wearing red coveralls. This being or brain-monster was Dr. Mud, the person who made Makenkah into a cyborg.
"Damn that traitor Makenkah. Damn the Makendo," Dr. Mud said in a voice that sounded like Clint Eastwood on helium. "I have nothing to conquer either world with."
Dr. Mud saw a ruined laboratory nearby and headed to it. He found notes about something called Daimon Eggs and quickly memorized them.
"Obedient creatures out of objects?" Dr. Mud muttered. "Designs look sound, but of limited value. Heart crystals? Bah. I want both worlds for myself, not someone else."
Dr. Mud took the notes and hid in the back of a circus truck that was parked nearby. He found an unused notebook lying behind a crate of costumes and started jotting down notes.
"I've heard that there was a type that could drain energy. I'll have to build ones like that in early stages to get the power I need for later versions. I think I'll call my beings mechoids."
Dr. Mud thought a bit more and came to a decision. "I'll also have to create some more human cyborgs to keep those three busy while my plans are nearing completion."
