"'Pregnant'?" Genma parroted.
"Yes! It's what tends to happen for a married couple!"
"You're married and having a baby."
"Not this second, but yes, I am!"
"I... Oh dear..."
"What is it?"
Her father just stood and blinked as he tried to comprehend what this meant. Of course, he'd known that his old friend was married, and had been informed of his daughter's marriage. Nor was he unaware of what happened between couples who were married. He just hadn't put together the idea of his old friend getting his baby girl pregnant.
"Pop?"
"Soun?"
"Yes, Saotome?" his former training partner asked.
"You got my little girl pregnant?"
"Well... yes, I did. But she's my wife."
"How did this happen?"
"The natural way, I'd think," Nabiki muttered, with a brow raised to mock his seeming obtuse behavior.
"Nabiki," her stepmother admonished, but any real strength to it was washed away in amusement.
"So... you really are my sister?" Ranma asked lowly.
"That I am. I mean, I remember how messy a baby you were. And as a little kid. You were always getting into something. But don't you remember me?"
"Ya seem familiar."
"How can you not know your own sister?!" Akane barked.
"Pop never really talked much about anythin' that didn't have to do with the Art. He even got eatin' to be part of it. But he never talked much 'bout any family, and I just guess I stopped askin', if I ever did."
"He... never told you about me?"
"If he did, it was probably ta make a point in trainin'."
"POP!" Genma was jolted from his contemplation of the fact that his closest friend had impregnated his little girl to face the latter's demanding tone. "What is it, Ranko?"
"Why didn't you tell Ranma about me and Mom?!"
"I didn't think that it was that important."
"You didn't?! Just how can't you explain that?!"
"Simple. If he was stuck on memories of home, he'd be homesick. In fact, he was always whining about missing you. So, I made certain that he was too busy to waste time being feeling sorry for himself."
"Is that so...."
"Well, I couldn't let him make himself sick. And I had to strengthen his backbone, so he couldn't keep wanting to go back. It made him tougher to do without."
That was followed by his daughter punching him in the head hard enough to push him forward. "You IDIOT!"
"Why'd you do that for?! You shouldn't hit your father like that!"
"He's right," her brother put in.
"I knew that you had the proper respect for me, boy."
"'Course I do."
"So, you know what your sister is doing is wrong."
"Sure do. Ya got used ta those types of hits."
"Eh?"
"See, Ranko, if ya wanna do somethin' ta Pop, ya gotta try somethin' like... this," Ranma drawled, and punted his father out to the koi pond.
His sister gave him a soft smile. "Ranma."
"Should you be hitting your father like that?" Kasumi asked.
"Do it all the time. And not only in practice. He tends ta be a big pain in the ass."
The Tendo sisters stared at the boy who'd just sided with their step-mother, while:
