But what she didn't realize when she had sent her daughter to stay with Soun Tendo after his wife had passed away was that she would be getting much more than she had thought she would. At first, it had merely been to help out for a while, but surprisingly, the two had wed, and given her something she had not known that she would ever truly get.
She got life.
Just by looking, she could see the chair in which she'd taught Kasumi how to do some special sewing techniques. In one corner was a picture of Nabiki when she'd graduated from junior high. Then there was the piece of clay that Akane had told her was shaped to look like a dog, and had a similarity to an elephant. Each was an example of a child who saw her as a 'grandmother' figure, and who loved her dearly, just as she did for them. They were her babies when she couldn't treat the ones that she had borne as such, and they'd taken a woman who'd have passed the days in a period of extended waiting into a time of life, light and love.
And now she'd gotten the phone call that she'd been waiting for ever since a little boy had put his hand to a piece of paper.
Ranko had called to say that her husband had received word that Genma was bringing Ranma there. It was something that she'd been waiting to hear for years, though she'd thought and hoped that they would come to her first. Not that she was totally surprised, knowing her husband as she did, but she did hope that he'd at least be kind enough to see his wife before going to visit his friend.
But that did not matter. Her baby boy was coming back to the area, and she couldn't be happier. It had torn her heart out to let him go, but now that she was about to get him back, she couldn't see anything but the pleasure of knowing that he was returning. They could take a week, or a month, and she would be satisfied, and excited, as she would give them all the time that they needed to get back to Tokyo.
And with her beloved daughter having offered to call when she got some news, she was ready to greet the completion of her family, while:
