"And after they sent through their version of a MALP, we partially disassembled it, and were able to put together a sort of videoconferencing set up. Mr. President" General O'Neill explained as he sat nervously, deliberately not glancing around the Oval Office.
"Another Universe." President Hayes commented shaking his head. "And here I was just starting to get used to talking about traveling to other planets and other galaxies." He walked to his chair and sat down. "Still, considering everything we have on our proverbial plate, I have to ask, what can we get out of it?" President Hayes looked at Jack.
Jack looked back, a considering look on his face. "Well . . . you know how we can't keep in touch with Atlantis, due to the power needs . . ."
"Which is why we're grateful to your friends the Asgard for giving us engines so our ships can make the trip." President Hayes responded with a slight nod.
"Yeah, Thor and the others are great . . . guy's. But, apparently gating between universes doesn't use much more power than normal gate travel. So according to Carter's theory, if we can gate over to their universe, and then get them to set their gate to dial Pegasus in our universe, it won't use any more power than dialing us."
President Hayes nodded, an impressed look on his face. "Well, that alone is worth looking into. So how's progress on our side?"
"Carter's leading a mission to a planet where something Daniel read makes him think he'll find the key to making this work. We've also got other scientists working on it at the base, and their setting up another big computer, since apparently . . . we'll need it."
Kakashi paused to look down the street of Hidden Leaf Village. 'Looks the same as always, no one knows how much smaller the world's just gotten.'
"Master Kakashi?" a feminine voice called.
Kakashi looked toward the source, and blinked at the sight of Sakura walking through the crowd toward him. "Yo!" he called while raising a hand.
"Is something wrong, you weren't supposed to come back for a few more days," She asked uncertainly.
"Nothing's wrong." Kakashi responded reassuringly. "As a matter of fact, something very right has happened, and I'm here to inform the Hokage about it." He looked toward the main building, under the cliff with the carved faces.
