As it was, Ranma and Ukyo and Akane all being in the same class gave them an athletic edge that had the remainder of the classes just plain giving up when that edge was seen as overwhelming.
In other contests, simply ignoring or not listening to the rules got class 2-A disqualified quickly. Ranma ate another class' bread, failed to find anything in the scavenger hunt, tried to win a relay race by himself, and was finally blunt-trauma smacked into unconsciousness by Akane before he could lose any more events for the class by acting the part of an "overconfident egomaniacal machismo jerk." (This summation by Miss Tendo being delivered loud enough to drown out the PA announcer.)
Ukyo lost the jumprope competition when Akane got a little overenthusiastic while twirling the rope. It was an accident. Honest! She wouldn't have tripped Ukyo up on purpose, much less caused the okonomiyaki chef to sprain her ankle.
As for the swimming relay, well, Akane didn't do too well.
The egg cup carry didn't go too well either. Akane was doing fine on that until Shampoo showed up and made a remark about finding Ranma and rescuing him before the cooking competition. By the time the dust settled, there were a lot of eggs no longer in an intact state.
That there was to be a folk dance at the end of the day had a lot of speculation about one Ranma Saotome and a suddenly missing Ranma at the height of the "discussion."
Finally it could be put off no longer. It was time for the Tightrope Tug Of War.
Akane was unhappy about being in the lead position, right before Yuka, followed by Sayuri, followed by a still limping Ukyo, followed by other members of the class, with the anchor being Miss Hinako. In Akane's viewpoint, the anchor should have been her.
She saw Shampoo had been given temporary dispensation for the other side, along with a number of girls and a few boys.
Since one of the boys on her own team was Hikaru Gosunkugi (he'd drawn lots), she wasn't expecting much power from that quarter.
