"I'm going to win this," she growled.
Shampoo gave her a smirk. "Well, you very violent girl. You use that?"
"You should talk! You don't even go to this school!"
"But am needed. Some people see why Amazon good warrior."
"Good for them!"
The two of them would have gladly continued to glare at each other, but the shrill sound of someone blowing a whistle stopped them.
"Okay, tug of war combatants, ready," the person acting as the official called out, and then blew a short burst on the whistle again. "GO!"
Both teams started pulling immediately, with the students tugging as hard as they could. Some were holding on more to keep their balance than anything else, but there was definitely some effort being but in by the two teams. Neither side gave up without really trying to do it, but with Shampoo being the only one from the high powered people, and Akane's team having an injured girl on it, they were both having to really push themselves.
Akane was totally focused on winning until she heard the cackle.
"Hee hee hee hah HAH!" went an aged and very familiar voice.
It was at that moment that the youngest Tendo realized that she wasn't about to get out of falling. She could do well in keeping her balance during a fight, but she was already tired, and having to deal with problems from other quarters. But she didn't think that he'd be doing anything approaching a normal attack.
And of course, she was right. Happosai leapt down from the school roof and tossed a knife at the tightrope. He might have been old, and someone who didn't like working at all, but he was very skilled, and would work hard to get what he wanted. So, the blade sliced neatly through the rope, and with the resulting loss of support, those who'd been standing on it were in the middle of the air for a moment.
Then gravity took over, and showed that while its laws were bent from time to time, they were still rather solid. Unfortunately for Akane, what was beneath her wasn't, as there were vats and pools waiting for her. Had she been able to, she might have had a chance to land on the ground and stayed safe, but the fall was too short, and the pools too close for her to really change directions to land on something truly 'appropriate'.
As a result, she basically did a swan dive into a pool, with its contents splashing up in her wake. Though she wasn't a good swimmer, she was able to kick her way to the surface and take hold of the side to hold herself steady. Once she had done that, she could breathe a bit easier, and let it register that she'd landed in the tank that had been holding the:
