Yet, he wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and munitions from a long time ago could really be useful. They were meant for causing explosions and such, and part of his style was to adapt whatever one could to one's own benefit. That wasn't always something that had to be used in a fight, as he followed it as a life lesson, but this was a classic example of it. Sure, having explosives wasn't the sort of thing that one would use in a normal fight, but he knew that he could use them in other things.
Heck, he could use them to get his boy back. Ranma was his son after all, and those catgirls didn't have any right to keep his boy from him. As his father, his son should be able to get to instruct him as he was meant to be.
However, he was not exactly getting to have the sort of situation that he might like.
He had little idea of where his son was, and didn't know how to get back. All he knew was that he'd have to follow the river to get back to where he'd be able to return to where they'd put him in. Maybe then he could track down where that village was again, and get his son back. It might take a while though, as he wasn't quite sure how far he'd gone.
Things had gotten rather... disorienting in that barrel, and he wasn't quite certain of much when he'd been in there. Then he'd been nearly unconscious, and that had basically left him without a complete clue as to where he was going. But go he would, as he would not let some isolated village run him off... at least not until after he'd gotten his boy back.
Not that he thought that it'd be hard to do so. They might have gotten the drop on him before, but now that he knew what he was up against, he could handle it really easily. And if he had to, he had at least a crate full of munitions to use for any problem he might come across.
Filled with his certainty, he never really paid attention to the fact that if those munitions had been covered by muck as they had been, they'd been placed in a position that didn't help them keep in good condition. Had he been able to read the language of the faded writing on the cracked and rotting crate, he would have realized that he had found materials that had been in use from before WWII. He didn't even know that in the condition they were in, the contents of the 'crate' had so little utility left in them that one could use them better as hand thrown blunt weapons... especially if anyone using them wanted to get blown up themselves.
However, he was slightly pleased by his find, while:
