Ledonir Kisaka had his hands full as he tried to coordinate Orb's defences against the latest Obsidian Abyss attack. Since his experience and insight has proven to be an asset to the Ministry of Defence, he was ordered to go to the temporary command centre, which was equipped with the standard military computer systems, to help coordinate the defence effort. The centre itself is located in the heart of the Morgenroete facilities. "What's the status on the Representatives?"
"They're all accounted for, sir! Except for Representative Attha," replied a female ensign. Kisaka resisted the urge to groan before he heard the same ensign speak again. "Wait! Representative Attha has just reached Morgenroete and is requesting to sortie in the Strike Rouge!"
"By all means, get her out there! Give her an appropriate striker pack that would be most efficient in driving the enemy back! How are Gold Frame and Red Frame holding up? And where's our naval fleet?" asked the man in his authoritative deep tone.
"They are currently engaging the enemy. So far they seem to be doing okay. I've gotten a report from Todaka saying that they can't get close because of the enemy's aquatic mobile suits," reported another young officer. Kisaka briefly considered sending out some Astrays to go and take care of the underwater suits but decided against it since it would leave some other key areas without protection.
Erica Simmons frowned as she checked the number of enemy units against their own through her computer. "This is quite the volatile situation. Kisaka, do you think we should...?"
"Although the situation is dangerous, I do not believe that it would be necessary to bring it out. The number of enemy units attacking us suggests that they are only here for a specific target, most likely the Kusanagi. Had they wished to do massive damage to Orb, they would have brought a far greater attack force," replied Kisaka.
"I suppose you have a point although I would probably feel a little more secure if it also participated in the defence effort. I would rather not have Lord Uzumi's final gift for Cagalli sit idle while Orb is in danger." Erica paused while she remembered how certain last minute problems had prevented the ORB-01 Akatsuki from being launched to defend the Orb Union when the Alliance attacked back in June.
The quiet moment between Erica and Kisaka was interrupted by Cagalli's transmission. "I'm ready to go, Kisaka! Now let me launch and save those two idiots from dying so I can throttle them for this morning's stunt!!"
The tall man typed in a command to allow the Strike Rouge to launch. "Everything's green. Go ahead and help the others."
"Cagalli Yula Attha! Strike Rouge! It's go time!!!"
**********
"It's funny how things have ended up. No doubt when the whole Obsidian Abyss business is over and when ZAFT finally cleans up the bureaucratic mess left behind by Patrick Zala, I'll probably be arrested for desertion and court-martialed. Dearka may get lucky since his dad's still on the PLANT Supreme Council." Yzak slowly munched on another cookie while he relaxed on the couch beside his mother in the living room. The room itself was furnished by several couches surrounding a large television. In front of the couches was a glass table where snack food could be placed upon when the family is watching TV. Right now, the plate of cookies, a cup holding some tea and a glass of milk were resting on it. A Pablo Picasso replica painting hung on the eastern wall of the room.
"I'm sure that Tad would be able to help you out. From what you told me, Dearka had hooked up with the Three Ship Alliance months earlier than you did." Ezalia picked up her tea and took a sip. She had sensed Yzak's reluctance to tell her what he had been up to. "You seem troubled. Is there something bothering you?"
The teenager sighed. "Somewhat. In a technical sense, I betrayed ZAFT and broke the oaths that I made as a soldier. And I joined up with someone that you had considered as an enemy a month and a half ago. I can't help thinking that you must be disappointed in me. But at the time, I really believed in the Three Ship Alliance and what they were doing is right," finished Yzak in a firm tone.
Before she could ask how she gave that impression, she realized that he had been referring to her cold attitude towards Naturals and traitors when she was still a member of the National Defence Committee and the PLANT Supreme Council. "Yzak, I'm far from disappointed. You promised me that you would always protect the PLANTs when you joined up with ZAFT. Even though you have turned away from ZAFT, you have not broken that promise. I'm glad that you are fighting for what you believe in, even if you had to side with the Three Ship Alliance. For that alone, I couldn't be any prouder of you."
Yzak just took this revelation in as this was not exactly the reaction he had expected from his mother. "Thanks, mom."
She leaned forward from her seat and hugged her son. "Just promise me that you'll always fight for what you believe in."
"I promise." Yzak felt a great weight lift off his shoulders and hugged his mother back. "I should get back to the Archangel. I'm supposed to be on stand by if the Abyss make a move."
Ezalia parted from her son, picked up the finished dishes and stood up from the couch. "Of course. Let me just get you some things so you can take a piece of home with you wherever you go."
Yzak smiled as he followed her out of the living room. "You're the greatest, mom."
