Jedi Knight 1/2: Waking to a Wonderful(?) World [Episode 145224]

Kodachi's room was larger than Ukyo's whole restaurant, both floors of it had been. And that was just the tip of it, actual sleeping and sitting areas of a chamber that seemed half furniture display from out of a fashion magazine and studio. Her closet had more space had Ukyo's whole bedroom did before it burned, and then she learned that was only one of the Kuno girl's humongous walk-in closets. Then there was bathroom for private bathing reserved for Kodachi herself, a far bigger one that was almost more an Olympic pool fitted with fountains and sculptures meant for family use...

There wasn't any other good word for it than palatial.

As Ukyo lay beside her Ranchan in a giant, pink canopied bed, watching him sleep sunk six inches down into the plush softness, she had to admit that Kodachi didn't lack for creature comforts. Hollywood sets didn't look so good.

Looking over her shoulder, yet not stirring from Ranchan's side, she saw Kuno's pet ninja struggling in under the weight of a huge, ornate, mahogany chest of drawers which he set in a blank space near the bed. Kodachi began to calmly unpack Ranma's belongings into it while Sasuke disappeared.

There was a moment of silence before the gymnast stiffly paused. "Kuonji-san, you... you helped me gain Ranma-sama, even though it hurt you to do so. You helped me, sacrificing your own happiness, if only for a moment. I don't know how to thank you. No one has ever done that before." After neatly folding a red silk shirt and putting it away the gymnast turned about to face the chef. "Can you tell me why you did it? I would really like to know."

Ukyo stretched and wondered if it was worth getting up yet. "Well, sugar, that's got a long story attached to it, and I guess the whole chain of events starts with Ranchan's new teacher. You saw him briefly last night."

"The wood sprite?" Kodachi blinked politely.

"Maybe, I thought he looked closer to an earth kami, myself. But I'm not the best judge of what spirits should look like. And Ranchan said that he could see somewhat into the future, so that probably bumps him up higher in however those are classed. Anyway..."

=====

Nabiki woke up scowling. Her sister was the quiet type, it seemed. Her whole microphone array hadn't picked up anything other than the whisper of cloth as her sister turned over during the night. No helpful habits like talking to herself in her sleep or anything.

She had just about given it up as a lost cause when her speaker mumbled what it was picking up at the other end as Kasumi picked up her mother's photograph.

"Oh, Mother. I don't know what to do. I still want to twist Akane's neck about and break her spine before caving in her skull with an iron pan and filling that empty cavity she should keep her brains in with that awful toxic sludge she calls cooking... At least, I want it a little more than usual, still."

Nabiki, normally a slow person to wake up in the mornings, sat on the edge of her bed all frizzed out with a look like she'd just played with high voltage wires and didn't like the feeling one bit.

Akane poked her head in and cheerily announced. "Hey Nabiki, what do you want for breakfast? I've decided I'm going to cook this morning to give Kasumi a break."

"NOOOOO!!!"
