"What'er ya thinkin' about, Nat?" Death asked.
"Ze Saotome boy," Natalie Durand, Death's lovely assistant, replied. Her accent lilted softly as she rubbed her chin.
"Wot about 'im?"
"Don't you zink you should 'ave explained where he was going? I get zis feeling 'e will be mightily unimpressed," she offered dubiously.
"Eh, that's part 'n parcel of the deal he accepted, Nat. He gotta make the best 'a things. Wouldn't be much of a challenge if we gave 'im what he wanted, 'eh?"
"Non, I suppose not," Natalie admitted grudgingly.

Ranma had expected to be thoroughly disgusted by what was about to happen next. Rebirth was about being reborn, right? And birth-well, he didn't know a heck of a lot about that, but he'd overheard some of the wives back at the dojo complaining...and he really didn't get it, either. Whatever it was, he expected it to be messy. that was one thing they seemed to agree on.
It really wasn't, though. It was almosy mystifyingly sterile and clean...and getting cleaner by the second, as he felt himself being gripped and lifted by a pair of hands too large to be normal.
Ranma gasped as suddenly, connections of small medical sensors came off of of his new, tiny body. He was quickly passed off to a woman, a nurse, by the loosts of things, who held him gently, cooing softly and beaming. Daaaamn. This really SUCKS. What the hell's going on? That felt like I was in a fish tank, not bein' born. What kinda con job was that death guy runnin'? Hum. Those letters on her dress say P.L.A.N.T., don't they? Is she a tree or somethin'?
The woman, oblivious to the complex thoughts flashing behind his eyes, cleaned him up gently and carefully, and swaddled him up in what he assumed was a baby blanket, and began carrying him close. Well, this part was nice, at least. The light, rythmic bouncing of footsteps and the general warmth of the body lulled the newly infant Ranma to sleep in her arms as she turned into a room to meet with Ranma's new parents.
----
"All tests came back positive!" Nurse Hathaway proclaimed to the happy couple, waiting for her in the room. The husband and wife's anxious and tired looks turned to pure joy as the wife accepted Ranma's tiny form from her arms. Her next sentence would have flabbergasted him, had he been conscious. "It's my pleasure to announce you have a healthy baby girl," she beamed. "Have you come up with a name?"
"Yes. I'm going to name her after my mother. Lunamaria," the wife replied, smiling shyly up at the nurse. Nurse Hathaway smiled widely.
"That's so pretty," she gushed, stroking Ranma's cheek gently as the transplanted martial artist slumbered in his new, infant body. "Welcome to PLANT, Lunamaria Hawke."
