Lina blinked in confusion. "Wait... what?" Shaking her head, she began chanting a basic spell, "Light which burns beyond crimson flame, let thy power gather in my hand! LIGHTING!"
The Lighting spell was perhaps the single most basic spell in her world. Just about anyone could learn that spell given a few days. Even during her 'Time of the Month,' Lina could still pull off a Lighting spell without too much trouble.
But this time... the power was there, she could feel it... but she was unable to channel it right, or shape it with the chaos words. Instead of a globe of bright light, she managed to give her hand a dim glow that quickly faded away.
Frowning at her hand, she abruptly turned back to the image of Xellos. "All right... explain!"
Xellos just smiled and shrugged. "I'd tell you it's a secret, Lina, but I honestly don't know myself. All I know is that magic doesn't quite work the same here in Lord Death Fog's world. Using the Demon's Blood Talismans, you should be able to use a limited amount of magic again, but to regain anything like your usual abilities, you'll need to learn the native fashion of magic, first."
"Wonderful... what about the others?"
"Well," Xellos replied, looking thoughtful, "I doubt Gourry will have any problem, but the rest of your companions may find themselves at a bit of a disadvantage... I guess they'll either adapt, or... well, I think you can figure that out for yourself..."
Lina growled at Xellos' smiling face, wanting nothing more than to wipe it off... but recognizing that trying would be even less useless than usual. "Wonderful, Xel. Anything more you can tell me... preferably something useful?"
Xellos just shrugged. "You're not too far away from a town, Lina. I'd suggest starting your search there." Xellos began fading away as Lina watched. "Tch. Looks like my time is up. I do wish you good luck, though..."
Lina just stared at the place Xellos had been moments before, the sighed. First things first... find a path out of the forest, and then find a town or village of some kind.
From there... well, she'd have to hope she could find some lead on her friends.
