That was why there were a number of Japanese schoolgirls, among others, in the hold at the moment.
"You know, I wouldn't have thought that they'd be complaining right now," Ukyo murmured softly.
Nabiki raised a brow at the chef. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well, we're on a ship bound out of the danger zone, and hopefully another step on our way to safety. Shouldn't they be feeling safer, rather than complaining about the accommodations?"
"They've been pulled from everything they know, and just got away from their friends, neighbors and families wanting to kill them off. I think that if they're complaining about how we're travelling, it's better than focusing on what's happened to them."
"And you forgot an important thing," Cologne murmured as she looked towards the pair.
"Like what?"
"The fact that they don't know what their futures hold. I am my Village's Matriarch, and Shampoo is still Champion, no matter our changes. You, Miss Tendo, can work in back offices as a record keeper, even if you don't stay at the Village. And Miss Kuonji doesn't have to be in the same room as her patrons to cook for them."
"True. And my little sister can fight. Kasumi... well, she's always been good with the house, and has studied Doctor Tofu's books...."
The Amazon Matriarch gave a heavy sigh. "Exactly. However, none of them can be sure what sort of lives they'll live in the Village, if they can be able to survive elsewhere, and don't even know if they'll be able to get there alive."

"I was a lone girl looking for Ranchan for ten years. Do you really think that I stayed in penthouse suites during that time?"
"Not really. But you could get around without this."
"Sure, but it helps when a girl wants to save money. Besides, I'd have thought that you'd be unused to this sort of... discomfort."
"Me? It's not my favorite trip so far, but I prefer staying calm, rather than worrying my head off. It's helped me so far."
"A very useful talent," the Amazon Elder drawled.
"I'd like to think so."
"Is good. Shampoo think you be helpful," put in the teenaged Amazon as she came over to them.
"Oh?"
"You is smart girl. Akane? Ukyo? Rich girl? They fight. But you good at figuring out problems."
"Why, thank you. And if I might say, you look to be comfortable."
"Is Shampoo's element. Working under stress, and be ready for attack is part of Amazon training."
"Speaking of which," her great grandmother asked, "is something the matter?"
"Captain says, we leave Japanese waters soon. No sign of anyone following, or heading to us."
"That is good to hear."
"Is so. And is funny."
"How do you mean, child?"
"When in Japan, Shampoo hear people complain how everyone try to move to their country. But now? We moving from Japan to China. Happen sometimes, but this no 'company transfer'."
"Too true, Shampoo. Too true," Nabiki commented with feeling, while:
