What made their friendship surprising was that the girls themselves were quite different from each other. For instance, Akane was essentially a tomboy with a desire to be domestic, and Minako was fashion conscious with a wish to be an idol singer. Even if they were both outgoing individuals, the sole fact that one was boy crazy, while the other was wary of male attention made for an interesting pairing. On the other hand, Kasumi seemed to be able to be companionable with anyone, which meant that Minako was 'brought into the fold', so to speak, as the elder girl just seemed to treat her like another little sister.
But it was her relationship with Nabiki that seemed to be the strangest. Although Kasumi and the blonde tended to look towards the bright side of possibilities, and Akane and their friend shared an affection for cute things, the middle Tendo sister just seemed to mesh with the other girl in an almost duality based role. Where her young friend was forward, active, and hopeful, the elder girl was cynical, logical, and restrained. The two of them tended to play off of each other, sort of like a balance, where Minako drew her into all sorts of activities based on whims and enjoyments, while Nabiki was able to nudge her into certain actions, and kept things on an even keel.
Oddly enough, it was Ranma who actually the best bet for keeping the younger girl in line, and that wasn't simply from her mooning over him. He was a dedicated martial artist who gave her a sense of routine and dedication that served as an example for her own desires. Of course, they shared a dislike of schoolwork, but the truth was that they shared a pure honesty and a desire to be the best at what they did. Then again, she seemed to keep him out of his stubborn or sulky moods, as he couldn't help but make him feel good.
Shaking her head over the deep relationship between the forthright girl and the cocky young martial artist, Nabiki couldn't help but smile as the familiar voice came onto the line.
*"Hi, Nabiki!"* chirped the perky voice of her friend. /*"Calling about another sale?"*
"Nope. Got something better to tell you about," the elder girl drawled.
*"Really? Sounds interesting."*
"Trust me. This will knock your socks off. Guess who's coming to my house...."
*"Ranma's coming with his dad, and it should be soon,"* came Nabiki's amused voice over the line.
"What?" Minako breathed, her eyes losing focus as her mind wandered away from the reality around her.
*"Apparently our dear fathers have some sort of idea that they can hook him up with one of us. But you know how we'd feel about that. So I figured that it'd only be proper to give you a call about what was about to happen."*
The blonde cupped the receiver with her free hand and silently agreed with her friend's concept, but she didn't think that the other girl had any concept about how special the fact that she was in love and was loved was to her. After her earlier experiences, and failures, in romance, she'd thought that she'd be doomed to a life without someone to share her future with.
And then she'd met Ranma Saotome, at a street race, of all things. Neither one had expected to be there, as Ranma was merely following other boys, and Minako had been chasing rumors of something special going on at certain spots around town. However, any interest that they might have had in that sort of crowd was quickly eclipsed by their interest in each other. From the moment that they met, it was clear that there was something between them, although neither one knew what that was.
As they got to know each other, it had become clear that they had something together that was more than any simple attraction. Certainly they desired each other, and she was rather vocal in her appreciation in Ranma's toned good looks. However, he was apparently drawn to her cheer, bright outlook, and strong spirit, while she had seen him as someone was individualistic, quick witted, and able to endure so much. Not that she wanted him to have to go through difficulties as she rather wanted to protect him the best that she could.
Still, the two independent souls had discovered a harmony with each other that they knew was a true love.
That didn't mean that she had to particularly like her father-in-law. Her mother might have been a bossy nag, but at least she wasn't someone who tended to act on immediate urges for important decisions. Genma Saotome was not one of her favorite people, and she rather doubted that she would change her mind on that score.
In any case, she was happy that she could finally be reunited with her husband, and let a warm smile curve her lips, while:
