“WHAAAAAAAT?”
Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist and commander of the easternmost outpost in the country rubbed his head to try and relive the pain, or at least try and stop the increase that would follow soon after. “I thought I specifically said that I didn’t want to be placed in the same car as Fullmetal and his group.”
Hawkeye coughed into her hand and then pulled out a small folder before opening it and pretending to be busy. “Well, yes sir,” she admitted. “But since the Brigadier General commandeered the only private car on the train for his personal use, we had to rearrange the seating on such short notice. I guess you’re request was forgotten in the shuffle.”
“Come on Roy, you’re not getting any older, and you could do worse,” Hughes cut in from beside the other man. “She is quite the looker after all.” Then after glancing around to see no one was paying attention, he leaned towards his longtime friend. “And besides, I think the ears are kind of cute.”
Mustang quickly cut off any further conversation by raising his hand up and snapping his fingers.
“AHHH MY HAIR! WATER! I NEED WATER!”
As Hughes ran wildly around the train car, Roy Mustang tried his best to repress the memories that just wouldn’t seem to go away.
(-Eastern Command. A few months ago-)
Roy looked up from the reports on his desk when he heard the door open and the familiar sound of a bodiless armor move across the room. “Hello Alphonse, where’s-” Mustang’s usual question of asking where Ed was, despite the fact the boy was right in front of him, and then making some stupid comment to get under his skin about not seeing him down there was cut off when he saw a new girl standing next to the two of them.
She was tall, about six and a half feet, with a black stripe tattooed on her face near one of her green eyes. The woman had on a white cotton shirt that seemed to only be made to cover her breasts, and tight jeans that had been colored green, and a cap. About mid twenties by the looks of her, and Roy could already guess what she was about from the way the woman was dressed.
Leaning over his desk to look at Ed, Mustang gave the boy his assessment. “Find a shorter girlfriend Ed, this one’s too tall for you.” Not that he actually thought they were a couple, but teenage hormones and all that were probably giving Edward different ideas.
“She’s my apprentice, not my girlfriend you idiot,” Edward shouted while he jumped up and down in rage. He was about to lunge at the man as the man’s superior smirk told Ed that Mustang was laughing on the inside when he suddenly found his feet hanging off the ground and something pressing against his stomach. It actually took him a few seconds to realize that the blonde haired woman had picked the much shorter boy up and stuffed him under her arm. “HEY! PUT ME DOWN!”
The woman rolled her eyes at Ed’s request and then looked over to Roy. “You really shouldn’t antagonize him you know,” she said with a frown. “By the way, my name’s Brianna Diggers.”
(-Present day-)
Roy moaned in aggravation at the memories of his actions after that. He had made some offhand comment about wondering why the girl was training under a no talent like the Elric boy, mostly just to get under Ed’s skin for revenge in return for all the paperwork that had to be managed to cover the boy’s unofficial absence, but it ended up peeking Brianna’s interests. She had shown up at Roy’s quarters later than night, just snuck in after picking the locks on the door.
Of course if he had known back then she didn’t much like Ed and was ready to get rid of him for something better at a drop of a hat, Roy wouldn’t of commented on how he would have been a much better teacher. After some rather… embarrassing moments that Mustang had made sure weren’t EVER going to be let on to the rest of the people under his command, he found out about Brianna’s secret.
Well, if he could keep Macro a secret then Roy didn’t see what one more thing to cover up from the government would hurt. The girl seemed mostly harmless to him aside from her complete disregard for personal space and being much too grabby. At least with the girl just being an apprentice to an alchemist under his command, Roy had deniability if something should go wrong and she gets sent to a laboratory for dissection. The one little problem with that defense was that Hughes had somehow found out about Brianna’s nightly visit and jumped to the only conclusion that a man could come to with limited information. The fact he later found out that Brianna was in fact a chimera didn’t seem to alter his opinion any though.
“WATER! WATER! SOMEONE PLEASE I NEED WATER!”
Edward held out his metal arm to catch the major right in the chest while he was running and then clapped his hand over the small smolder that had been thrown there to put it out. With the distraction gone, he looked back to Brianna. “Why the heck would I want to do that?”
Brianna held up a finger, as if lecturing the boy; which she guessed she was. “Come on Ed. I may have been the one to train under you, but there’s no way that two teenage boys should be running around by themselves.”
“So you want me to pay you to tag along?” Ed demanded. “No thanks! Me and Al got along just fine before you showed up, and we’ll be a lot better off when you’re gone.”
“Ed!” Alphonse chastised his older brother. “Brianna, it’s not that we haven’t liked having you around, but… why do you want us to pay you a million dollars just to come with us?”
Brianna blinked at the two boys sitting across from her. “I don’t want it for-” she cut herself off and rolled her eyes. “Look Ed, I’m going with you either way. It’s just that I need some money for alchemical research. Well it’s not really research, I just need to buy some supplies to build some stuff.”
Edward groaned and rubbed his forehead. Figures, the first student I ever get is just like Winery, he thought to himself. How long had it been since he last seen her anyway? Three years? But Edward couldn’t just up and decide to visit his childhood friend because of a simple feeling of nostalgia. He had a job to do, and nothing to go back to in his hometown anyway. “How about I just pay you the million and THEN you leave us alone?” When Brianna gave him ‘I’m not really your big sister but I’m gonna give you this look anyway’ glare, Ed let out a sigh. “Okay fine, two million.”
“ED!” Brianna shouted, drawing more angry glares from the people on the train.
The elder Elric shrugged in defeat. “Alright already! I’ll loan you the money. While we’re at the library in central, you can do… whatever it is you want to do.” It’s not like I’d be able to loose her anyway. The girl could track by smell and run as fast as a train after all. Brianna may of not had the chimera look, and whoever made her had done a pretty good job on her senses and reflexes; but her brains, obedience, and attitude could use a little more work.
